like really, ii have 8 houses in the top half of my town while 2 just sit @ the bottom half.. ii tried to cover my town with little spots of paths, bht my newest villager squeezed herself between Julian and Ursalas homes!! like why didnt she move to the bottom half where there is nothing bht space and grass? WHYYYYYY!?!?!?!?!? like did ii not put the paths in the right areas? like if you see my town its covered here and there.. should ii have covered the entire top half and left no grass to be seen? bc she literally plopped herself where 4tiles were placed with 2more @ the top and 2 to the sides? so you could still see grass bht ii thought bc there were paths there nobody would be able to move on them?

I don't know why, its the reason why plot resetting as well as tiling is a safety catch.
But you can't always do this, well if you have all 4 characters you can't - I have some towns like that & I basically went OTT and tiled the whole town apart from the positions a house would be OK for me.
What I found difficult to get my head round is that flowers & trees are very much removable by an incoming house.

As to why the villagers are clustering - I think the game has been programmed this way - well a lot of my villagers cluster around the human houses/other villagers, albeit I also get the odd one that goes out on their own.
There's also the issue of a limit to the number of houses/buildings in one acre although that isn't your problem.

There are good sides to what has happened - you get a village type atmosphere, several villagers together I think works well.
And the open space is good for some more PWP's.

Yeah it’s so silly that you’re stuck with it when you already have 4 characters.
Really nothing you can do. Thought of a possible trick where when the game loads—the intro with logo, it shows the town and then maybe you wait until it shows the spot? Idk might not work. The next game should avoid this mess with reserved spot feature.
Peole can argue with me that that’s the way the game works with its unpredictability, but irl you also can’t just build your house anywhere. As mayor you should have the power to organize the town!

Since there’s nothing you can do now (unless you move them out) you can think of something to do with the big empty space. Like, a park. I’ve always wanted to do a big park with pwps but my villagers are actually spread out the town, 1 house upper west 1 house south 3 houses east so on.... so there no huge empty space. See... there’s an advantage to what happened to you (in my mind at least)

thats true, bht id have rather not have the huge open space, especially if my villagers havent requested anything new.. to which ii wanted them spread out bc they just look crowded now. :( ill figure something out, thank you :)

ii totally agree!! we should be able to choose where they may put their homes!! ive seen ppl have alllllll their villagers lines up in a row and im just like, HOW did you do that? like all neatly lined up!!! like why cant ii do that? lol

Sadly the view of your town before you load may not show what you actually get when you load - and that seems to be more so if its a new villager plot.
It's confusing because when I look at the overview and see a buried item (the star shape) that does stay in the same place - but villager plots may not. Plus the overview does not show you the whole town.

Having reserved spots for villagers was something we had in accf - the signposts. Some players liked them cos they made pathways to all of them, so wherever a villager landed they had a path already set up.
But some of those signposts, well for me, were in really awkward places and the sign post was there for ever, even if no house.

On the whole I prefer what we have in acnl - especially now we can tile/pattern areas.
I haven't had an issue as yet with 4 human character towns - if I did, I suppose I could eliminate one character so I got down to 3 & could then plot reset. Given bells are not that hard to earn, it is possible tho I'm sort of reluctant.

Having villagers lined up - in one of my towns it happened naturally - weird & no plot resetting either. But they are not evenly spaced and not all level, but they are in sort of a line! Its along a path by the cliff & I had already placed the Mayor and an alt along this 'line', villagers just kept moving in along the side of these two. It was prior to the update.
I assume for towns where they have managed it, its a lot of plot resetting and luck.
