Sonic Generations Gameplay

If it helps my point any, I also played Katamari Damacy with my roommates. Well, I didn't actually play it myself, but I watched, and I can say that it looked very enjoyable, and I would have liked to give it a shot. It's one of those games that, if it was on a Nintendo console, I would definitely consider buying. However, it's not something that would make me go out and buy a new console for it. I may like a game, but that doesn't mean I'll love it like I do other games.

No, really, it isn't. I'll admit, in the past, that would have been the case, but not anymore. I've developed a much better attitude towards non-Nintendo games in the last year or so. Of course, you guys here on the forums don't see it much at all, because this is where I go to talk about the things that I like most; Nintendo games. Anyway, the point is I played LittleBigPlanet with my roommates, and though I can definitely see the appeal of the game, it's not my type. It plays similarly to franchises that I like such as Mario, yes, but it doesn't match the...hm...what do you call it...atmosphere? Theme? Style? I dunno. It's just too...generic. Maybe that's not the best word, but I think you can understand the point I'm trying to make. Sackboy is...okay, but he's no Mario, he's no Link, he's no Sonic, he's no Kirby...

He's not trying to be. That's the other problem; you shouldn't be comparing Sackboy and other non-Nintendo games to Nintendo games. It's like comparing Justin Bieber to Daft Punk. They're polar opposites.

I'm not comparing them in that sense, I'm comparing them because Sockboy, as well as the rest of the LittleBigPlanet universe, just doesn't have that special something that catches my interest like Mario, Zelda, etc. does. I know Sackboy is no Mario and that he's not supposed to be.

In LBP1 the "universe" is pretty bland, the kick of the first was the multiplayer and level making, LBP2 has more of a story.

jesus, tye. buy a ps3/xboxxy and learn to enjoy something non-nintendo branded, or don't and accept the fact that you will be getting less and less third party support until nintendo ramps up their game.

simple as that.

i have a strange feeling that if every character, background, enemy, and general "boss" in little big planet was themed after mario, and made by nintendo, the exact same game, you would be in love with it. deny it all you want, but i'm sure of it, myself.

katamari damacy (the original) should be super-cheap on the ps2, now. it was $30 when it came out, and worth every penny. **** was ****ing original.

right now, steam has a potato sack sale going on, and there's a basic katamari clone in it. (the wonderful end of the world, $5 by itself) looking at it, the problem is it isn't for mac, so not quite a solution to your problem. meh.

if you're wanting to be serious about video games, you need to realize that no one company is omnipotent, and that you will be missing out if you don't widen your field of view. if you don't, you'll miss out on games such as this new sonic the hedgehog.

if money's an issue, that's a valid argument, and a different topic completely.
if it's just your own pigheaded-ness, then.. no sympathy for you.

Which is your intense love for the company.
No. >_> I don't love Nintendo's games because I love the company. I love the games because...well, they're what I like. I've said this how many times now? Nobody here seems to get it.

If every character, background, enemy, and general "boss" in LittleBigPlanet was themed after Mario, it would probably be more appealing to me, yes, but the gameplay would be the same...so I wouldn't really enjoy the game any more. Just because a game is a Mario game doesn't mean I'll automatically like it. There are lots of Mario games that I don't really care for.

I do have enough money to buy a PS3 or 360, but I really shouldn't be spending the money on a new system right now, especially after just buying two 3DSes. Besides, there just aren't enough games that interest me to for it to be worth it. Even if there are games like Katamari (er, wait, no, PS3 has no backwards compatibility with PS2 anymore, so scratch that), etc. that I might enjoy, there are only a handful of them. I'm not gonna buy a system that only has a handful of games that I would ever consider purchasing.

But if the rumors about the Wii's successor are to be believed, this next generation should be much better when it comes to third party support. Most developers only exclude Wii because it's not HD. Sega has even said that that's the exact reason why Sonic Generations is only for PS3 and 360. (Maybe Sega was hinting at something... The Wii's not HD...but its successor will be!)

if i see "wii's successor" one more time...

who said buy a ps3 for katamari? a used ps2 shouldn't cost more than $50 at a gamestop. that's what, $10 more than a 3ds game, and the same price as a wii game? plenty of good games, used, are under $10 if you look through them and have an idea of what you want.

you said yourself, "it plays similarly to franchises that i like such as mario," but it didn't have the same atmosphere/theme/style. which honestly has nothing to do with gameplay, which you said is similar to franchises that you like, such as mario.

and on the topic of purchasing a console for a handful of games, you obviously would not only be purchasing a handful of games, then sticking your head in the ground. if you are a console owner, and are interested in games, then you must have at least half of an eye open for upcoming titles, and gems that you may have missed for your console(s). that would be exactly like me saying "well, i really want to buy smash bros. brawl, but i don't know any other games out for the wii so i'm not going to buy it."

hell, you purchased a 3ds (two, at that) with the hopes that games you want will come out, on top of a handful of games you know about (my assumptions being kid icarus and the zelda rehash).
i'm excited about star fox 3d, but there is nothing else in development right now, or that i know of, right now that interests me, whatsoever. i don't need 3d to play ocarina of time, i don't honestly need 3d to play star fox 64. FFS, the 3d is entirely optional for the gaming experience! it's just another dsi with a couple souped-up features. sad but true.

anyway. my apologies for the aside/rant, but the main points remain, quite clearly. whether or not you understand me/the rest of us or do and choose not to follow our advice is really not my concern anymore. have fun with your head in the sand.

Oh, and I played Portal today. I actually enjoyed it. (Well, I enjoyed the game, but I didn't enjoy playing it. I hated playing it with a keyboard and trackpad. The first person perspective wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but only because it's more of an at-your-own-pace puzzle game than an action or shooting game.) So don't tell me I only like Nintendo and Sonic, because that's not true. It's just mostly true, lol.

Anyway, back to Sonic Generations... The main reason why I want to play this game so badly is because it's going to be revisiting stages from past Sonic games. I don't care much about the Genesis games, though it will be interesting to see those older levels remade in 3D, but I'm really looking forward to stages from games like Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes, etc. And Shadow is confirmed as a side character...this will be interesting! Is there time travel involved?

so hard to resist "how do you shoot orange portals?" it isn't even funny.

use a mouse, bro. and give it ~4-5 times playing with the WASD/keyboard layout. it becomes second nature.

and configure/change your keyboard controls, it can help a lot. cuz i can't hit ctrl/alt for the life of me.

I say "Wii's successor" because the codename "Project Caf?" isn't 100% confirmed yet. And I'm not calling it the Wii HD, that's just silly.

I said it plays similarly to Mario, yes. Most sidescrollers do. That doesn't mean they're all the same. And Mario's gameplay is how it is in part because of the theme/atmosphere/whatever of the game, that's why it's significant.

And the reason why I'll always buy Nintendo consoles is because I know that there will be games that I will enjoy on them. I know that there's going to be a new Pok?mon game on 3DS eventually, and a Kirby game, and WarioWare, etc. None of those are confirmed, but you know they're coming. And a ton of games that I know I'll want are already confirmed, like Ocarina of Time, Kid Icarus, Super Mario, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing... The same will be the case with Nintendo's next home console, and any other Nintendo system that ever releases. There will always be games that I know I will enjoy, and most of them will only be available on Nintendo consoles. The same can't be said for the competition. I know there will always be Sonic games on other consoles that I can look forward to, but that's about it. Maybe a title here or there that catches my interest, but no big franchises that are must-haves for me like there are on Nintendo consoles.

By tapping with two fingers instead of one, the same way right clicking works normally on a trackpad. And it's the same way with a mouse, too; just click the right side like any other mouse. >_> The "Macs have no right click" joke is really old, and it has absolutely no foundation to it at all, because Macs are completely capable of right clicking just as every other computer is. Why it's even a joke to begin with is beyond me.

Anyway, I found using a mouse to be even more uncomfortable, though that might be because I'm just used to a trackpad. And I'm sure that with practice it will become more comfortable for me, but it won't be as comfortable as using a controller. Controllers were made for games, keyboards weren't. I'd much rather have a controller fit for my hands with an analog control stick than a bunch of keys on a flat keyboard.

because mac mice traditionally have one button, and because it gets a rise out of mac users.

i'd say it's your keyboard, personally. that, and not being used to it. i still love my ps3 controller for sidescrollers and certain action games, but the keyboard + mouse is the undisputed king of first person games, in my opinion.

keyboards have been used for gaming since the invention of the pc video game. it's gotten considerably better, and it's hard to argue with a controller that has upwards of 30 buttons. where it shines is multiplayer, for obvious chat reasons. and games with lots of intricate bindings/controls, which can happen in fps games. (or other things)

but hey. opinions.
