so, backstory: a friend of mine sent me this image from reddit that fit perfectly with the aesthetic of my island, so I decided to try it for myself using the mannequin method.
I am aware that:
it is only the last one that's refusing to spawn in the designated spot. I know it can't be too many rocks in one map grid cause there's only 3 per and the top 3 landed just fine. I know it's not that it just won't spawn, because after accidentally deleting the pattern I was using for the mannequins and putting them back out, the next two days had it spawning in places I'd missed, but the last two days it's refusing to spawn anywhere. I just had two friends come over to check and see if I'm just crazy, but they can't find it anywhere on the map ether so it must be refusing to spawn.
is there something I'm missing? for more details if needed I've been posting diary entries every day on my tumblr so you can see exactly how it's all gone down. both I and my friends absolutely cannot figure out what the problem is. I've currently removed one mannequin in an obvious spot so I can prove to myself that it's refusing to spawn rather than somewhere I and my friends can't find.
I made this account hoping one of you might know, since I know a lot of you seem to know absolutely everything there is to know about the mechanics of the game. any and all advice is greatly appreciated<3
(also, fyi, I do not time travel. nothing against it, not judging, I just made myself a promise to play this game for a full year at least in real time, so the results of any advice given won't be known at least until tomorrow)

- rocks will only spawn if they have a clear 3x3 tile space around them
- and rocks will never displace another item, such as furniture, flowers, or weeds
