Okay, so this has probably been talked about before, but I want to bring it up again now that I know a little bit more information.

Okay so... there's a grand total of 64 brand new villagers. 50 of them are from old games. 4 of them are from Legend of Zelda amiibos. 3 of them are from Splatoon amiibos. 6 of them are from Sanrio. And then you have Felyne from Monster Hunter.

But the thing that has already interested me is the fact that.... only the 50 Welcome Amiibo card villagers can be used to give to other players without buying the amiibo. You can't give out Zelda/Splatoon/Felyne/Sanrio characters. They have to own the card. Not only that, but the furniture can still be gotten if it shows up randomly in Harvey's shop (only the ones found in the fifty new cards).

Why are the rules different depending on what kind of amiibo villager it is? It makes me wonder if these 50 new villagers are... not restricted to the cards. There's 50 of them in a 397 villager game. The odds of randomly finding one (if possible) are like a 13 percent chance. I wonder if they could show up as a random move in, in the cafe taking an order, in the background of Puzzle League, or even in the campsite.

Maybe I'm just looking way into it and I'm crazy. Which I probably am, lol.

The 50 new villagers can't show up randomly, so that means that somebody somewhere will have to spend money on the amiibo cards to put those villagers into circulation.
I guess that the villagers that come from amiibo figures are just limited to the person who buys them as it forces people to spend money. Half the people (myself included) wouldn't have gone out and bought the figures if they were available from the trading plaza. Although I probably would have got them eventually for my collection, it wouldn't have been for a while.

I definitely agree there! But they did so very selectively. I saw a lot of people angry at Nintendo for the amiibo update who saw it as a cash-grab, but that's not entirely true. There are so many different things that have been added to the game, my personal favorite being that villagers don't freaking move on paths anymore. Nintendo didn't force us to pay for the update or a physical title. The amiibo features are fun, but they don't take away the fun of the game if you don't buy them. You can even still visit the RV campsite with no amiibo to visit certain NPC characters. On top of that, they didn't region-lock or link the amiibos to specific consoles/ nintendo ID accounts, so friends and family are able to share them. But Nintendo is still a company, and a company that isn't really doing all that well... They're definitely hoping to give themselves a supplemental boost with the amiibo sales. Why those specific villagers are locked could be partially because Nintendo is also trying to support the other series that would otherwise not have benefited much from this update. I just hope that this all works out for Nintendo and the Animal Crossing series as a whole! I'd love to see more expansive updates for New leaf now that Nintendo is officially keeping the 3ds around as their hand-held for a while.

As a side-note, I picked up monster hunter generations almost entirely because Felyne was such a cool new villager. I'm loving it so far and the little cat people are precious. So the update is successfully bringing in new fans for their other series (/^0^)/

I don't think it's possible to put it any better.

I honestly don't. I only have 200MB on my SD card and if they continue then it's going to run out of memory. Not to mention that they are updating a game that's over 3 years old when they should be just working on a new installment altogether. Sure, the updates are nice but now I think it's time we should have a new main-series Animal Crossing game.

Your problem is simple honey just get a bigger SD card. Memory is cheap. And yes the game is 3 years old but it takes time to make the new installment. Giving us updates to tide us over is the way to go. I believe they are working on another main installment but I don't think we will see it for a while. We have to see the mobile app first.

Awwh! Thank you so much!

I can totally see where you're coming from. I actually didn't have enough space on my memory card for the update so I had to buy a 32gb sd card, now I have room for a ton more. I'm fairly certain they are working on a new game, and we're in the right chunk of time line for that to come out soon. Still, we wouldn't want them to rush a new installment and have it result in an exceedingly flawed end result. They probably have big customization plans in-motion for the next game that will take a great deal of extra programming (along with whatever they're doing with that phone app...) I can see where the updates aren't for everyone, but I love my current town to pieces so being able to get new game mechanics for my beloved town is kind of my ideal right now. I'd definitely jump on a new title for AC as soon as it's available though! ;P

little_caicai summed it up really well. I think considering how fresh the welcome amiibo update is, we won't be seeing the next installment for a while. The mobile app is in the works, I reckon that is another way of Nintendo tiding us over until the next release. Either way, I like to think that buying amiibo is a long-term investment for the series too. Yeah, initially it may seem like a cash grab, and it really is in essence, but I think it's safe to say that amiibo will stick around for some generations of gaming. They're great business for Nintendo, and collectors love them. I'm actually wondering if, come the day that they do release the next game, Nintendo will run re-prints of the amiibo cards. I'm not seeing many packs now and they've been terrible victims of scalpers, I think it's in everyone's best interest for Nintendo to make them more readily available for the next game in the series.
