Well I had to get someone to hold him anyway because I was going to reset my cycling town. If he didn't ping me to move before I was going to reset then I guess I would have left him there (bad choice considering his popularity)

If he is not in boxes find him and talk to him. tell him to stay that way you don't have to worry about having someone hold him

Don't TT 4 or 5 days at a time. Do it 1 day at a time and walk in front of every villager. The moving villager is always found outside the first time you load the game, by the way.
