Some villager questions

Okay, so I don't pay attention to my villagers anywhere near as much as I should.

1) If a villager shakes a tree, is there a chance they'll actually obtain something?

2) When a villager carries a shovel, is it possible for them to dig something up?

3) Do they actually catch bugs/fish?

4) Can they pick up items from the ground?

1, 2 and 3, pretty sure they can't. 4, no, except for weeds. I think you may need beautiful town for this, but I've seen villagers pull up weeds.

no, wait, now I remember that I didn't have beautiful town when I saw one pull a weed (like I'd have many weeds with that ordinance). Not that this is even what you were asking, but since I brought it up, I thought I should correct myself

the closest to catching bugs is during the bug off when they'll swing their net at a bug but will always miss
