You've time traveled and caught all of the fish and bugs and fossils. Your town is 100% finished and you are hoping nintendo doesn't release too many more buildings because you don't want to have to undo sections of your town decor. You have all of your dreamies. You've purchased or traded for all diys and hybrids that you want. You've cataloged all of the furniture sets you want. What do you do next? Is there anything left to accomplish that gives you reason to keep playing? Do you consider the game "beaten" and go play something else? Do you start over?

This thread came about from curiosity. I have the absolute opposite play style from above. (trying to make this playthrough last as long as possible) I know there are those of you here on these forums that have accomplished all of the above. This isn't a callout thread, it's innocent curiosity. What do you do when your town is finished? I'm trying to make my own gameplay last as long as possible because I know I'd stop playing once I reached the points above and consider the game beaten. Does anyone regret finishing the game in two months or were you pleased with your experience and are now happily moving on to another game? Discuss~ what do you do? educate me!

And because this needs to be noted, please be respectful to all players regardless of if their playstyles are different from your own. Different does not mean bad. Let's learn from each other.

This is the reason why I avoid TT outside of trade arrangements. I don't want to complete the game quickly. I am absolutely an achievement whore. I work at a game until it is 100% completed and then I move on. I dont want to treat this game that way (although the temptation is certainly there with all those Nook Miles goals).

Now that the initial hype has worn off I'm playing just a little now and then. Instead i am sinking 4-6hrs a day into Dynasty Warriors 8 in attempt to 100% it.

One word: PHOTOS TT.TT
I've set a new unrealistic goal for myself about getting as many villagers photos as I can (regardless of who the villager is).
But then again, I haven't really finished any of the other things you mentioned, so this would be a future goal or I guess, a work in progress lol

I want to complete everything so I can help out other people complete their stuff - plan on running games and giveaways etc to pass the time. Also I want to aim to legitimately get every villager's photo <3

Fortunately this was why I also opted to not time travel, because it takes away from the whole purpose of the game to me, which is supposed to be relaxed and laid back. I prefer to work at my own pace and gradually get these achievements. I also remind myself there's no rush because, as it stands right now, we're still under quarantine, so why bother? 😅 I get you can start over, but I prefer to do things slowly until I feel it reaches perfection.

As rewarding as it may seem that you achieve everything you want, it seems like there's nothing to work towards in the end - but obviously with AC, there really is no endgame as everyone has different approaches with how they play.

I sit back and enjoy?
Spend more time seeing how I can make my stuff even better than it already is.
Start finding more ways to help those who aren't to their goals, yet.
Work on making more pro designs or reg designs that are better than their first (or 5th...) iteration.

There are two ways to go about this.

You can become a philanthropist who helps other players or redecorate your island and start anew.

For myself, I have a huge list of dream villagers to collect. Heck, I am not even halfway. (I only got two so far.) By estimate, I can probably go about a year or more getting them with my current pace. (I don't time travel anyway.)

Thats kind of the end goal for me. I think the game just looks graphically so outstanding that i'd love to be able to "100%" so to speak my town so that whenever I'm in an animal crossing mood I can just hop in and enjoy the fruits of my labor. don't have to worry about DIYs/fish im missing in my museum and can just leisurely stroll through my island, talk to my villagers, and enjoy how lovely the game looks.

Time travel doesn't give you a perfectly decorated and terraformed island all at once. I TT a LOT and i have like 258 hours in the game, im constantly changing and designing my island. A lot of people think TT are "completionists" but really, most of us just want our bridges, inclines, and houses moved faster so we can decorate easily. :)

I mainly TT just for villager move ins and move outs. I am far from completion. I admire people that complete everything and help others out that want help though!

I only time travel to cycle out villagers and while I did trade quite a bit to get my DIYs near finished, I don't see Animal Crossing as a game you complete. I don't see my island ever being 100% complete and that's completely fine with me!

It's a life simulator. There's always going to be stuff to do and the seasons will change and bring new activities to take part in. I honestly love talking to the villagers. It's my favorite part of the game and why I play Animal Crossing. I already run a shop on here and I love the community TBT has and helping others reach their AC goals too. There's always going to be something for me to do in New Horizons and here on TBT and I love it.

I'm not sure, to be honest. I do a little TTing, but not to complete things faster (unless I really need to make a villager move out faster, in the case of making room for Pietro.)

I know I wouldn't want to restart though. I have a weird thing about not wanting to restart games like AC or Pokemon. I get too attached if I play the game long enough.

THIS. This is the exact reason I TT. I've completely flattened my island TWICE and if I didn't TT, moving all of those buildings and houses out of the way (and then back again) would have taken weeks. I personally don't go further than a couple days in the future at a time before re-syncing to the internet to get the time correct again. Not everyone who time travels is going to completely different seasons to get all of that seasonal stuff. And even if they did, Nintendo purposefully timelocked the events, so A LOT of stuff is still missing. So even if you reach "endgame," there's still more to collect. None of us really know what they're going to be releasing for major events like Festivale, Halloween, Harvest Festival, or Toy Day (all confirmed events for the future!). Plus we have all the little "mini-events" that we've never had before (International Museum Day, Wedding Season, etc.). I personally am not even close to having my island the way I want it. In fact, I still have most of the areas blank, even though I TT on the regular. There could hypothetically be an event announced tomorrow that has the perfect set of items that we all REALLY need for our islands. But we wouldn't be able to get those items (without hacking) until the event itself is unlocked. And even after that event is complete, it's entirely possible that they'll announce ANOTHER perfect event with MORE things to do and MORE awesome items to collect a couple months down the line. I guess my main point is, even if you TT to get all the bugs and fish, until they stop updating and announcing new things, there really is no "endgame." We have no idea what Nintendo is planning, and I think that keeps a lot of players interested. I'm sure that a lot of people with their 5-star islands are playing significantly less, sure. But none of us are anywhere near "done." :) Sorry this was long, just my point of view.

I've gotten all of the DIYs. Completed my fossil and art collections. Gotten every single hybrid.

Still got a lot left to do. But most days there is really nothing...

so I've been buying popular DIY recipes to give away to other players. Today I gave away a bunch of them. Feels good and also keeps me busy!

It's been interesting to see the replies so far! Thank you to anyone who has replied kindly! I especially like the idea of continuing to play, but not for yourself, but to assist other players. It's also an interesting mindset to consider that the game is never entirely done, no matter what. And I do understand that people time travel for all different reasons, not solely to hurry and finish their islands, I was simply using that as an example in my opening statement (because you would have to time travel to catch all bugs and fish at this point). It was just one of many reasons~
