this morning, i found my first lily of the valley! i was, of course, in shock because i felt that i was nowhere near done with my island, but on paper, it was supposedly perfect. i have so many tiny details to add on, and my right chunk of land hasn’t even been touched in terraforming. i’ve really wanted to do an island journal, but i can’t link my screenshots that i’ve took directly on my switch, and frankly, it looks sketchy any other way. i guess my island is my little secret (except not to isabelle. she claims that tourists dream coming to moonfall.)

what are your experiences with your five star rating? does the game not accept your town as adequate? whats your story?

Yeah, it doesn't really take much effort to get a 5 star rating. All I did was move in 8 villagers onto my island, plant a bunch of flowers around, put up some bridges and inclines, and decorated my island nicely in some parts and then placed a bunch of items I couldn't store in my storage around the island, even though they don't look right. I ended up find a Lily of the Valley and then went to Isabelle, knowing I had a 5 star island, despite it looking pretty incomplete. It's undeserving, but I'm not complaining.

I'll never have a five star rating because I have too many trees that I refuse to cut down.

I got my 5 star rating after I decided to make a restaurant area. I guess all the tables and chairs is what got me there.

Now I have so many extra diys on the ground I'll never be 5 star again :'(

I got to 5 stars without even trying.

It's great that New Horizons is lenient with 5 star ratings...because, everyone has different ideas of what a "perfect" town is.

Tbh, it was pretty bad when you needed the perfect number of trees per space and all that jazz. It was just tedious that way. I'm all in favor of the 5 star rating being "too easy" in New Horizons. It just means one less thing to worry about when I'm actually designing my town to look the way I want it to.

This!!! I want to "urbanize" my island so I've been very limiting on trees, so I'm extremely happy that New Horizons is so forgiving with this. It surprises me that people say it's too easy -- if it wasn't the way it was, a lot of people's designs would be so entirely different!

It's not too hard to get 5 stars, but Isabelle apparently really hates trees.

I actually tried to get 5 stars on purpose to get some lily of the valley. I put fencing behind my cliffs and tossed random furniture around. When it starts snowing on my island I will probably remove things

i got to 5 stars this morning! the main thing i’ve been doing over the last few days is decorating my island - isabelle said the island lacked appealing scenery and apparently the scenery i came up with was satisfactory:3

I got 5 stars without trying, mostly by planting loads of flowers I was trying to get hybrids from.

Then I added some more trees and have been back to 4 stars since, which is probably where I'll stay as I want to keep the trees no matter how much Isabelle might dislike them.

It's weird that the game tries to prevent you from creating a particular aesthetic, especially when it's more in line with the GameCube original.

I was aiming for 5 stars for a long time, and had a tree problem. I love having trees. I have the maximum amount you can have while still having a 5 star island. Anyway,

I was saving up on scorpions and wanted to also save space in my storage so i started displaying the scorps around my island. And then one day I had a jacob's ladder/lily of the valley. And oddly, when I got rid of all the scorps, the rating didn't go away. But it took me weeks for flick to show up on my island so perhaps I had done enough landscaping by then.

Isabelle refuses to let me past 3 stars, lol. Probably because I haven't put up any bridges or inclines other than that original first bridge :>

I threw all my random furniture everywhere to get the rating out of the way. I prefer not being tied down by requirements, no matter how lenient they are. I'll likely end up with too many trees and too little furniture anyway.

@Reginald Fairfield
You get it when Isabelle tells you you have reached 5 stars for the first time. You'll only have to maintain the rating if you want lilies of the valley to spawn.
