So it sounds like we might be getting an Animal Crossing Direct... for Pocket Camp.

As you all probably have heard, Pocket Camp is adding a subscription service on the 21st of November. They're releasing some videos about it the day before.

Instead of promoting and marketing what will be one of the biggest games on the Nintendo Switch just over 4 months from release, we might be getting a direct... for Animal Crossing Pocket Camp.

This really sucks. PLEASE don't give them a penny for this membership.

Maybe they gonna release a New Horizons Direct in December or January then? At least I can't imagine that they will not saying anything about it anymore till release, there will be more information coming soon, it's just a question of when they will say more.

And as for that Pocket Camp Club thing, as I said in another thread I will continue playing PC as long as you will not getting forced to pay for something you don't want to, so I will not giving a damn about this. I will never spend any money into that game and if they gonna force you one day to pay for something or else you can't play it anymore then I will just delete it and that's it. Not supporting Nintendo's cash grab trash here.

I guess the Mario Kart Tour’s subscription was a success. I wonder if they’ll start implementing subscriptions to all their mobile games.
I doubt they’d have a direct about it, though. Seems like something they’d just sneak in, knowing most people woulfn’t be highly receptive of it.

The year is almost over. New Horizons is just around the corner. My guess is the next Nintendo Direct will have a hefty trailer highlighting new content, then tell us to tune in for a full AC Direct in the near future.

Pocket Camp just further solidifies why I think mobile gaming is awful. You pretty much have to become a free to play whale milker to even succeed in the current mobile environment. Which means making the game as tedious as possible for anyone who isn't a whale. I'm glad I never downloaded Pocket Camp. It looked slightly appealing when it first came out but it's since lost all of that appeal. If you aren't having fun with Pocket Camp anymore, don't let the sunk cost fallacy drive you to spend money on that game.

Really, I don't care about what happens in Pocket Camp as long as it stays there. It's the possibility of those same tactics coming to New Horizons that really scares me. And after Nintendo's seen how much money they can make by doing it in mobile, I wouldn't put it past them to try it in the main series.

I stopped playing this game months ago cause it pressured me constantly to spend leaf tickets, and then buy more with my hard-earned money. Plus, after playing the same style events over and over and over and over for months, it gets boring and repetitive. If they implement a subscription service then I'm definitely not going back to the game.

Nintendo's mobile effort has been quite lackluster. And their monetization scheme is quite awful. Jesus. This isn't the company I grew up with. Fortunately they still have a great console and a traditional way of making money with the Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo tried to make money off of mobile the more honest way with Mario Run, but no one wanted it. On mobile the sad truth is, that people will buy more into these lootbox/subscription/in-game currency kind of things. Nintendo wants to make money and they simply do what works best for them (and many others). They tested the water with some mobile games and after that worked great for them they are now going all in it seems. As everyone always says, vote with your wallet: if you don't want that kind of stuff don't encourage it.

I don't like how these mobile games make their money and I don't play them. To me they are lackluster and small timekillers for a busride etc. Only very few actually stand out. I also doubt Nintendo will do this kind of stuff in their main releases, because they aren't stupid and everythings works perfectly fine for them this generation. People still want great singleplayer games despite what other game companies say, so Nintendo delivers them.

Oh I agree!

WHY a Pocket Camp direct other than to make more money via those infernal microtransactions.

I will be honest. Every time I hear of a feature from Pocket Camp, (even if it's good, it's the principil that matters) being dragged over to New Horizons it makes me a little dubious about it.

Pocket Camp is designed on a mainstream Animal Crossing game. It's coming across to me, as the other way around.

I'm not a fan of mobile games since I don't have a PC and haven't for many years, so the last thing I want is to play games on the thing. Especially a game like Animal Crossing.

It doesn't belong on a mobile.

All my opinion only, folks. ^_^

Back to the main point, we should be getting more mini directs (IMO) for New Horizons at this point, as that is the real money maker, when you consider how many first time switch buyers (including me) New Horizons will be a magnet for!

Eh, I haven't played Pocket Camp in over a year because my devices are no longer supported apparently.

But seriously, I don't think this was needed. At all.

I'm not sure at all it's going to be a direct...
We have a video posted on twitter for each new cookie and for big events as well. These are just small promotionnal videos and they last like... 30 seconds? Check them, they're on twitter.

When they mentionned a video I'm pretty sure they were talking about this kind of video and not a direct :)

The heck?!?! Nuh-uh, I'm definitely, NOT going to buy a subscription. I've never touched the game at all and personally, I think Nintendo is just tainting its franchises this way in the mobile market. And seriously, to encourage people to pay up on things they get on random is just outrageous. I heavily dislike mobile phone games structured this way, especially when it's based on RNG. Words cannot describe how mad I am.

This game already lost appeal to me, it’s very repetitive and the only content that changed is the fortune cookies, now when there’s new contents it’s hidden behind a pay wall, and I just lost further interest.

I read through it, I believe it's optional. I play acpc still, it can get pretty redudant. I won't pay for a plan but the game is pretty full without it. I don't expect to get something for nothing, and I don't mind that there are some extra features that require pay. Literally every other app has some sort of payment or an ad every 2 minutes.
it's a good idea for those who are really into acpc and are spending money on it.
Most people giving input on this, admit to either having never played acpc or haven't played it in a long while, I don't want to ruffle anyone, but aren't your opinions kinda moot, considering?

Edit: spelling

Wait, what's the subscription thing for in PC?
Another way to get exclusive stuff by finding yet another way to fleece the public?

Animal Crossing has gone off the rails with that game.

Edit. I just read up on it. People are abandoning PC over this. Saying the microtransactions have tainted the series and they don't want anything carried over to the new game.

I agree whole heartedly now.
The series is tainted. :(

If I remember correctly, you will get exclusive stuff, being able to choose a villager to taking care (along with you) of the campsite and also warehouses where I guess you can store you items there. They want to say more about this in three days.

So yeah, another way to just get more money from the players.

Yep, I just read all about it.
It makes me feel a little sick what they've done to our beloved Animal Crossing.

It appears nothing is sacred.

Greed taints everything it touches.

Guess they saw how much money they can get from Mario Kart Tour and it's paid membership, so they thought "hey, why not making the same in Pocket Camp to make some extra money till all those kids gonna drop the game anyway because of New Horizons?". After all, as long as they not gonna ruin New Horizons with this trash, it's all good (I guess)...

Except having to pay them to go online or we can't trade. :(

The Nintendo Switch Online service is either too cheap, or too expensive. It's too expensive for what it is, yet not expensive enough to offer the services people are expecting from such a service (something equivalent to Xbox Gold). I'd rather pay more, and get dedicated servers, friends list, etc. Oh well ! I've just renewed my membership last September for another year.

I'd rather pay nothing.

Isn't paying for the game and console enough?
IMO it is.

I don't like online gaming.
