um, so i have no idea how this happened, or why but it did and im currently crying. i was going to play acnl today, but for some reason, my data was corrupted. i dont remember doing anything that could possibly cause such a reaction. if anyone has an idea, id really like that.

but regardless, it kinda sucks how this happened. i worked so hard for this to happen. i didnt even get to sell my town either ;-;

This is horrible! Though I understand words change nothing, I'm still very sorry!

Have you done any hacking?

Has your game cartridge come in contact with a magnetic object recently?

Sorry that happened to you. It truly does suck that you lost everything you worked so hard for.
I know there's a way to get corrupted towns back, but seeing how it involves hacks, its prob. not a way you wanna take.

no i haven't done any hacking. although, i think might have left it near some magnetic stuff. i really don't know. ;~;

Yeah I don't blame you. I don't even know how to do it. A friend of mine did it for me when I lost my town. But I'd never try it myself. Maybe you can visit your dream town and recover everything that made your town special. You can still see your town that way.

Hey, I'm really sorry that happened ;; That really stinks.
Could it be a problem with your sd card? You could get a replacement if you're not sure of the reason, just in case.

From online I'm reading that save files can corrupt if system updates are interrupted too.

My town is pretty new, but I'm willing to help you rebuild if you need it ;w;

Try creating a new resident and seeing if that resolves the issue. It has been known to do so. Delete an existing resident and make a new one if you are already at the max.

This may not work. But worth a shot. Try with every resident slot if you already have existing ones. Additionally, it is plausible that deleting your town will make Tom Nook appear anyway and give you bells. It largely depends on where your save file is corrupted.

I can relate. This happened to me twice. I was using a cheap sd card. Nintendo apparently has approved brands due to different cards having different write speeds. Both those times I lost all digital data. Was able to send the system in to become usable again, then redownload the titles to restart the games. Was it just the game card or the whole system?

I worry about this with my gaming systems. What SD card is considered cheap? For my switch, I bypassed the nintendo branded sandisk, and got a reputable SD card 40% cheaper. [This is the one I got]

If you are running the digital release corruption is more likely which is why I am using the physical version and as a backup I have checkpoint on my hacked 3ds should anything go wrong.

I also keep away my cartridge away from things like water or magnetic fields as well.

I am so sorry for what happened to your town and in a way I can relate because I almost lost my acnl save data in an incident where I tried to hack my save file but luckily I had a savefile backup saved on my pc and I was overjoyed to see my town again as normal

thanks for all the support, y'all. i really appreciate it :) but i come with more bad news :(

while surfing through my 2ds, i discovered that not only was my acnlwa data deleted, it was everything else too! im kinda confused about this.

That's shocking! I didn't know that having your 3ds near magnetic fields can corrupt your files too! I really hope that I never have to experience this. My town is almost half a decade old and I made lots of memories on it. How long did you have the town?

Ouch! Just, ouch! If that ever happened to my copy of New Leaf, I'd be really feeling it. I'd hate to have spend so much time on perfecting my town, going through painful process of unlocking each and every PWP, obtaining every painting and fossil and finally completing my bug/fish/item catalog only to have all of that data corrupt and disappear. Honestly, if I ever picked up ACNL again, after that occurence, I would just hack it. F doing all that again.

I've heard of this case happening to other players, it's usually a result of an incomplete saving process (if you turn of your game before it's fully done saving, or your system shuts off mid way). I don't know if that's your case or it was just purely random, but I'm sorry that happened to your save file.

If that's the case, it seems a corrupted SD card can also be the problem. (More info can be found here.)

I'm sorry this happened. :( I have a few questions if you don't mind, do you have digital or physical copies of your games? Did you swap micro SD cards, alter files on your micro SD card between the time you last played ACNL to when you discovered your save data was corrupted? And lastly, what brand is your micro SD card?

Sharing my own story, several years back, I use to have issues in regards to my digital copy of ACNL. Once in a while, an error message would pop up stating I had ejected my SD card. Of course, I wasn't purposely doing this and it become worrisome. I was worried one day this would corrupt my save data. After doing some research, I discovered my Sandisk SD card was faulty and immediately bought a new one.

my sd card was the one that came with the 2ds. i feel that i should get a new one tbh. i only had a physical version. i dont remember messing with it either.

Very sorry this happened. Did you have a Dream address?

i was planning to make my town a dream address right before it got corrupted :(

What the actual... Okay this makes me scared for the future. What if my game does the same thing? Omg please I already restarted once and that was already hell- I can't imagine losing all that progress again. I just CAN'T...

I'm so sorry this happened to you. Man I feel so bad for you and wanna hug you and give your file back in mint condition. <33

I wonder, is it possible your update data on your micro SD card got corrupted, leading to your save data on your cartridge to become unrecognizable? I'm sorry to ask again, but is it a physical copy of ACNL, or ACNL: WA?

I might be wrong depending on the region, but I believe the brand of the micro SD card included is a Lexar?
