but when I checked her "setting" she was a boy! I made her to be a girl with short hair she rocks the pixie cut but turns out she was a boy dressing as a loli,,

I think that setting only determines pronouns, however, they do nothing in the English version of the game because they opted to use they/their pronouns.

That's true. I kinda wish they hadn't done that though

Loli is an offensive word, it isn’t the cutesy term you think it is. It’s a term for a sexualized child. Just telling you so you don’t use it again. I notice a lot of people misuse this word, thinking it means something cute, but it actually doesn’t.

Strangely, the game uses they/them pronouns for all player characters, regardless of the setting they chose. Makes me wonder why that setting is even a thing in the first place. I do like the gender neutral pronouns, but why do they give us a “gender selection” when it doesn’t matter?

Weirdly, the game uses they/them pronouns for everyone. Makes me wonder why the gendered “style” selection is even a thing in the first place.

I think the gender setting actually might affect some things. For example, my villagers give me cutesy nicknames like "cupcake" and "tulip," but my boyfriend gets things like "chief" and "guru." This could just be a coincidence, though.

I think I remember hearing the he/him she/her pronouns work in the Japanese version. The team responsible for translating the game to English would be the ones to blame here if true

Actually in a Japanese culture loli is the term for a girl who is small in size lolicon is the sexualizing of kids or a person who likes younger girls. If it offended you so easily why did you post about it? I'll still use the word anyways especially since my character cosplays as a gothic loli so

Well it’s not gothic loli, were you trying to refer to gothic Lolita?

In terms of style yes. I have made numbers of cosplays with the Japanese Gothic loli aesthetic. Why is wrong to refer to my ac character as a loli it's a chibi child!

the word "loli" has developed a different connotation and at this point definition online referring to sexualization of young girls. i understand it's related to lolita fashion, but that really isn't the case now. if you want to refer to fashion, say lolita/lolita fashion. people are explaining this kindly, so you can instead change your terminology and perhaps avoid a misunderstanding in the future.

I'd rather have gender back, but with the same options.

I'm sick of my villagers giving me frilly dresses.

I'm a bloke.
I don't wear mermaid outfits.

haha, whenever that happens i just regift them to my female villagers or friends, so it isn't too big of an issue, for me at least lol

FYI, ロリコン/lolicon is a shortened version of “Lolita complex.” Both “loli” and “lolicon” are english borrow words in jp and come directly from Nabokov’s “Lolita” which has questionable themes to say the least.

Ack well I love the lolita aesthetic! I wanted to make my character a boy who wears dresses but my sister thought it was kinda strange.

DUDE I LOOKED THAT BOOK and I was disturbed to say the least. I guess Japan twisted this idea?
