Stalk market hands down. Use Reddit or ACNL Online to find a good turnip price, invest in 1m bells worth of turnips or 180 stacks of 10. Your choice, but either way you're easily making 9m+ profit for each time you sell all the turnips, barring tips of course.
I got my fortune from trading with orderable items, but you need a large catalog for that.
You could also convert TBTB to IGB, the ratio is at 8m:100 TBTB right now so you can get a lot for just a few TBTB.

I normally just sell items that other players need. I'm planning to sell about 12 gold nuggets soon, and once I've finished with bushes in my town, I'll be TTing to sell bush starts.

Just remember: never TT back even a minute once you have them. Once blew every Bell I had because I TTed back an hour after forgetting that it spoils turnips. I don't want you to suffer the same thing.

turnips, buy like 150 of them in bunches of 10 and sell them at someone's town when the price is 500+ per turnip. I'm now bored of pushing turnips but back then, I would only sell at prices 600+. You can get close to 9 million bells in net profit from the whole trip

You could try to grow fruit orchards with foreign fruit or perfect fruit, it`s a sort of a more pleasant method to have a good income that is definitely more fun than beetle farming c:

Turnips, fishing, selling item at retail and on the forums. Thats how I make my money on animal crossing 
Turnips. I would have never made any bells without turnips. The bugs are good for making the bells to invest in turnips. But honestly, if it wasn't for this site, and people letting me sell turnips in their town, I would have never had all the bells I needed. If you can play the turnip market, that's your best bet.
Otherwise, trading on these forums is also really helpful in making bells. And it's actually half the fun. I really love that aspect of the game as well.
Those 2 are your best bets. Otherwise, I'm afraid it's bugs and sharks. I guess to make it less painful, I would put on a show/movie in the background and zone out hunting/fishing for 30 minutes to an hour each night. I'd consider it meditation. lol

turnips is the easiest way to make bells.
check out the reddit sub for turnips (people usually open up when they have reese selling for 500+), there is also a turnip prices thread on here. another way to make money is by selling villagers, especially those in the higher tiers.
if you have a second copy of the game, you could also do cycling and get some money from that.
last, you can also sell orderables/unorderables/hybrids/etc on here as well, which is another fairly easy way to make money.

On sale day drop them at the event plaza and than send out the player going for the badge to pick them up.
All money made goes towards the badge since that player didn't buy them.

Woah... woah, woah. I've never mastered the Stalk Market. This seems incredible to me. Is there a thread where people are posting updates of what turnips are being bought for in their town at the moment? Or do you have to start a new thread asking each time you're curious?
Haha, that's why I haven't bothered with it yet! I'm terrible for forgetting things
Once you make that mistake one time, you'll never forget again.
Though you could just leave a bunch on the ground somewhere you'll see them all the time, to remind you that you still have them in your storage and need to sell them. That might help.
