Smash Bros Smash Bros Wii U Tournament #1 (Javocado wins)

Could we give them a couple more hours - a day?
I just really hate disqualifying ppl ;-;

It's been a week.
I'm sure Rasumii won't mind being DQ'ed.

Okay then Rasumii will be DQed and Jeremy will move on to face javocado

Straight to JAv? I thought the entire point of having subs was for this exact reason................????

It was but things got confusing and the easiest way to move on is straight to Javocado. I'm being a terrible host I know and I'm sorry ;-;

It got confusing because you asked two substitute players to fight against each other lol.

Anyway, good luck jav!

Also for the future, we should come up with some formal way of disqualifying people from tournaments. But this is a good trial run to see what happens without it.

Look at the most recent official bell tree smash tournament lol

A while ago I mentioned something like a time-out list, where if individuals are disqualified for failing to turn up to their battles then they aren't allowed to participate in future tournaments for the same reason. It sounds harsh, but I'm sure as beans that it'll make people take these tournaments a little more seriously and consider that when they forget/lose interest that it affects the entire tournament and most of all other participants

It's not necessarily that simple because people might live in different timezones and just never be on at the same time as each other.

I feel like 3 days to play your match before being DQ'd is a pretty reasonable suggestion. 3 days can easily take into account time zones, work, school, etc etc etc and give you some leeway to play around all of that without forcing other entrants to wait forever for other peoples matches to take place. How do y'all feel about that?

Then when people are assigned their opponents this should be taken into consideration

It's unfair to DQ both players if only one is unable to play.

After the first round, that wouldn't matter any more.

Most of the matches were finished within the first two days, so I see two days as a fair amount of time taking timezones into account. Perhaps if both players are active they could get an extension but if they know they aren't free very often or have different timezones, then it'd mess up the tournament for others and that wouldn't be very fair for them either.

For Jer's case, he should have gotten a substitute opponent after the two days because there were days when the opponent didn't respond.

I guess an idea would be to post your time zone so you can be matched with someone that'd be easier to play with, but people who join should make sure that they take different times and their business into account because otherwise it'd ruin it for everyone else anyway.

So, disqualifications should be made after two days, especially if an opponent hasn't made any sort of attempt to SMASH, and only those who don't actually try should be penalized. Both players should make an effort to get on, however, so if one is on but doesn't try to communicate they'd at fault, too. Like Okason said, it'd be a good idea to try posting in the thread to notify people that you've tried to contact them.

For the record, emmatheweirdo and I are planning to host a more official/organized tournament after this one is completed. We've already discussed the rules and pretty much all of the suggestions that have been mentioned thus far a while ago.

Defeated Okasan in a close one!

I now await 00jachna in the finals!
