Smash Bros Smash Bros. 3DS/Wii U Discussion Thread

Leak Support.jpg
Pic of the day. This time, you can challenge every fighter in All-Star Mode from the moment you turn on the game!! This is a survival battle with limited recovery items and no option to continue. However, this mode will be incomplete until you've unlocked every fighter... Until then, you can only play against characters that are already available. This is a picture of the bottom-screen menu, with a padlock indicating that the mode is still incomplete.

Leak Support 2.jpg
In these battles, multiple opponents appear in one stage, and you clear the battle by defeating a number of them. The rest area that appears between battles displays the next opponents and the year the characters made their first appearances, and it also holds recovery items and an occasional reward. The characters you fight against appear pretty much in chronological order. Behold, the history of Nintendo games!!

That dang leaker.

Samus Outfits 1.jpg
Pic of the day. Until now, you were only able to choose from four, or sometimes five or six colors for each character. This time, though, all characters have eight colors to choose from! The first four color schemes for Samus are based off her Varia Suit, Fusion Suit, Gravity Suit from Super Metroid, and the Dark Suit.

Samus Outfits 2.jpg
…And here she is in the color schemes of the Gravity Suit from Metroid Prime, Green Samus (a regular in the Smash series), the Light Suit, and Dark Samus. A total of eight colors.

Possibly Drunk Villagers.jpg
You can choose between four male and four female Villagers to play with. The designs for their faces and clothes are different. And here are the four Villagers we haven't shown you yet.

Not much new tonight.

- - - Post Merge - - -

But I'll be using that purple boy when I play as Villager. I always have to play as a purple kid. XD

The creators chose the worst designs of the villager ._. WHY THAT HAIR??? WHO WANTS TO PLAY WITH THAT GIRL HAIR??? Ugh

Run!.jpg
Pic of the day. Here's one of the final battles in Smash Run, called "Run!" As you'd expect, it involves you dashing toward the finish line. In general, the fighters who are fast by default, equipped with speed-boosting equipment, and powered-up with speed boosts over the course of that Smash Run will have the advantage. However, speed isn't the only factor that will determine who will be victorious...

Danger Zone.jpg
Those red things in the picture are called danger zones, and if you touch one, you'll get penalized by respawning farther back in the stage!! The danger zones disappear after someone else touches them, so fighters following those in the lead will have an advantage. You can still find speed boosts throughout the stage, so it'll be a heated battle 'till the end!!

Climb.jpg
Here's another final battle called "Climb!" Obviously, those that can jump or fly higher will have the advantage, but they also have to avoid the danger zones!! It gets pretty challenging if you've boosted your speed too much, as well. Everyone really gets into this when playing multiplayer.

Sakurai, there's only 6 more Pics of the Day, and you decide to show off even more Smash Run. -_- Why.

Hopefully we'll have details on the full roster after a week of the Japanese release

So I've kinda been blanking the pic of the day messages most of the time and didn't keep up with the whole thing nearly as religiously as I did with Brawl, so I'm going back through them.
I thought I'd post a few tidbits as I'm going just for anyone else who hasn't bothered with the daily posts or to remind people of things confirmed that have probably been forgotten in the past year and a half. Iunno, I just thought it might be interesting to some?
NB It's made clear in several pictures that the earlier fact postings might not make it to the finished game.

1) All fighters will have a move to grab projectiles and throw them back. (Like Villagers 'pocket' (down b) ability)
2) The outlines around player on the 3DS can be varying thicknesses or turned off. - Thank Christ I thought until now that they were always on!
3) The Villagers balloon recovery has 2 balloons which can be popped by other player stopping you getting further. ~ Simillar happens with Diddy Kongs barrel launch.
4) Apparetly Link and toon Links spin attacks hit 'very differently' ~ I'm guessing only one has knockback
5) Marth is referred to as Male multiple times. xP
6) Bowser can use his shell as a form of defense. o:
7) Rosalina can land a smash attack from the other side of the stage. Also she's 'very light' (̶J̶u̶s̶t̶ ̶l̶i̶k̶e̶ ̶M̶a̶r̶i̶o̶ ̶K̶a̶r̶t̶)̶. Also Also, Luma seems complicated, which everyone probably already knows but I literally only knew she was in the game before this. (I was living in a workcave back then evidentally.)
8) Air time and damage percentage determine edge grabs and invincibility on them.
9) All standard attacks now have a finishing move. ~ I actually heard about this a couple weeks ago, but thought it was worth putting.
10) Many stages have multiple designs.
11) Different tropies appear in the 2 games, ~not sure why I'm surprised at this but I am. 3DS has portable game based trophies and Wii U has more home console based trophies.
12) Cuccos! And apparently a lot of new Zelda based items.
13) Greninja is apparently difficult to control, but can move freely while charging attacks and during his shadow sneak.
14) There's a continuously loopig stage that you can only die frombeing launched up on. Homg, I want to hit someone horizontally with the home run bat and watch them orbit.
15) Brittany confirmed to not be an alternate costume for Olimar. - Disappointed here.
16) No more seeing the back of characters shen they face certain directions. D: Actually I liked that, it made for better pictures sometimes. (Cause I played matches for photo-ops way too often!)
17) You can be any colour during team matches. O: I was wondering how that would work if Bowser Jr's alts are the koopalings. Works by changing the colour of your outline, even though it was stated earlier the outlines were only on the 3DS. So what happens on the Wii U version?
18) The bottoms of the revival platforms change colour to indicate how long you have before it drops you. ~ useful for stall tactics.
19) 12 custom moves per fighter, but not for random online battles. D: Also has it been confirmed anywhere that the custom moves are used by the CPU controlled fighters?
20) Collect 100 coins in the NSMB2 stage and become gold, stronger and be immune to flinch. o:
21) Height determines Miis power and speed. So with 3 Mii fighter types we've actually got atleast 9 fighter types. ~ also can the CPU play as Miis? Seeing as they're not on the character selection screen are they?
22) Pacmans taunt has a Namco roulette - So maybe this is where Katamari are hidden in the game. I was hoping it'd be an item like a giant sticky bomb that gather things as it rolled off stage or around like the old fireball thing in Brawl.
23) Lucina is a complete clone of Marth jsut without Marths thing of having attacks do more damage from the tip of her sword. D: I was really hoping for more than that, and I already play as Marth a lot, so I don't need a simpler version of her. <_<;
24) O: You can have the 3DS as a Smash music player in sleep mode. -dead-
25) Also the Home run contest is only confirmed on the 3DS so far. O:

And I don't know why I went this long without spoiling myself on anything other than characters and then binged on all this, but I don't regret it. :p

Psh, I'm guessing we'll know after 2 days.
I wouldn't be surprised, welp

ayy lmao

Pic of the day. So what is this Games & More option in the menu? I assume that some people may use this mode the most.

DTXowWI.jpg

This is what you see after you click on Games & More. There are many modes to choose from. There's the Options button, too.

UY5v6PT.jpg

Futhermore, this is what the screen looks like after you click on Solo. In the Stadium, you can find the Home-Run Contest, various Multi-Man Smash challenges, and Target Blast!

I wouldn't say it's like Adventure mode, you just get to pick (of 3 people at a time I guess) to fight, Classic mode only has 6 Battles if I recall too, it's the lowest amount of battles that Smash has ever had.

Reddit live updating from a SmashBoards thread said:
Quick transcript for everyone, will update as he does:

Would be updating faster if Smashboards wasn't being so slow! Probably getting rekt from the traffic..

Post 1:

I JUST PLAYED.

I will be more thorough later but right now.

Ledge snap SEVERELY nerfed. I feels like Melee ledge grab.

Meta knights up b is like Marth's up b. It hits people like once and sorta knocks them away and has an upward direction to it.

His tornado still has a lot of hits but you can DI it pretty easy because the hits are actually less frequent, I don't know yet about its priority.

Pivot cancel is still in

Pac Man is SLOW. Every single one of his aerials are kicks. His forward aerial is a double kick, his back air is like Mario. The thing that stood our about him is his utter sluggish-ness. His fall speed is like brawl. His run speed is slow. His forward b sends a pellet out in front of him, and then he turns in to classic pacman and boosts towards it. It's kind of like greninja'd shadow sneak thing except you can't time it.

lucario is unchanged except his smash attacks feel MUCH faster.

peach is unchanged except for her up aerial. It's now a rainbow thing, it has an arched hitbox over the top of her head, she draws it with her hand.

Zelda has a white costume

Editing this post for more as we speak

Sonic still dies pitifully if you end up in a spin without a jump

This sounds AWESOME, except for that Sonic part... why...

Post 2:

Ike feels unchanged. I was never an Ike main so I don't know the specifics but his attacks were all the same general thing, nothing new I noticed.

pacman. He feels slow, but his attacks felt like they had a good hitbox, because he's really fat and his legs stretch when he kicks. He just felt really interesting to play, but I ended up using his aerials the most because of their hit boxes.

Peach's turnip pull speed is nerfed. She can still move in to float to do things like crown and nair. Her fsmash goes tennis club, golf club, and frying pan. I believe it's a set order now.

Pacman sounds super freaking fun omfgiwanttoplayhimsobad.

Post 3:

Shulk and robin are playable.

Man I'm freaking jealous, my two favorite newcomers...

Post 4:

I have no context as I don't play peach much :(.

sonics forward b snaps to the ground, it is really fast now.

his uair is like a scissor kick, has a way better hitbox than the twist kick thing.

Post 5:

ledge stalling may be impossible now? If you drop from the ledge and jump back up, you literally will just NOT grab it. It's like the ledge gains invulnerability to your grab for a certain time after you let go. DO NOT TAKE THIS OUT OF CONTEXT. I am not 100% sure I need to try it again on my 2nd go around but in my last match I basically lived on the ledge trying this out.

I could no re-grab the ledge directly after letting go and jumping back in to obvious grab range.

I will play Shulk this go around. And robin.

Post 6:

Someones question: Big question. Are the blast zones still set very far out? Click to expand...

Yes. Characters even go bubble status on battlefield without dying.

Post 7:

palutena's smash reach is incredible. Her up smash is the giant pillar laser beam thing. Her side smash moves a bit forward and her wings slap in front of her.

robin is FANTASTIC. Magic is not slow, when he has his spell book his attack speed is really good. If you use a smash attack in the air IT USES HIS MAGIC SMASHES. If you use a normal aerial it uses his other weapon.

Let me reaffirm this. Robin feels AMAZING.

YESSSS ROBIN

Post 8:

Lucina is not playable.

chrom appears in robins victory pose.

they are really right on pictures and video. I almost got kicked out for trying.

villagers up b is the most overpowered recovery I've ever seen.

whoever is worried about combos, there are combos.

YOU CAN CANCEL RUN WITH SHEILD.

I THINK I JUST CAME, SMASH 4 TOO STRONK

So they're having an event in Japan with a new demo build with a lot of the newcomers including Shulk being playable!! Tons of new info coming out of it right now.

It sounds like Robin is a really good character! Yes!!!

EDIT: There is a ton of info leaking out everywhere such as Olimar have Alph alts and Link have a Fierce Deity alt. I'll try and keep up on it all.
