With the new update when you wear a Mii mask the skin of the mii changes your hands and legs too... that being said you still can't change your skin colour without tanning. Personally I think Nintendo really missed out on this one. They should be inclusive of everyone, and something like this would give them the positive hype they need.
What are your thoughts?

My ideas would have been Harriette introduces a "full" makeover of sorts and allows you to change your hair, eyes, and skin colour like in HHD.

UGH I'm bummed that they didn't make it like HHD where you can change it easily. Come on Nintendo, dont make me burn myself just so I can accurately represent me in the game :( Loved everything else about the update but it would have been so easy for them to change this.

Yeah, I agree they kinda dropped the ball on that one. It would have been so easy to add a little thing in with Isabelle on the train where you can choose your skin tone, or have Harriet get the chair thing from HHD where you can change your entire appearance.

I agree with this, when they did the new update and added some elements from HHD, I think they should've taken the chance to add in the new hair styling machine from it as a it's a good reason to do so since they were already programming the HHD furniture into game and Lottie's appearance etc. That, and it's a good element to have in-game since once you have it you can freely change your hairstyle and skin colour and eye colour anytime without needing to reset or anything like that so it'd probably save a lot time and resets.

that IS a bummer. Considering how many languages the game comes in and how players are in all parts of the globe...you think they'd get with the program :/

I was thinking about this too. Not just skin but all features. I really wish they gave us the option to change face if we wanted at least one more time if not all the time. :/

I agree, if the appearance is fixated and can't be changed easily it could make some people feel this is mean/racist! This should be added in another update. On the bright side, at least we have new features! :lemon:

I think it should have been included with the update as an option, I'm actually surprised it wasn't tbh.

Being creepily pale, the coloring works for me, lol. But I 100% agree that Nintendo blew it big time with this. It would have been so easy to give players access to skin shades via Shampoodle. I have always found that lack of option very disappointing. And the tan is only a temporary solution. The lack of diversity has always struck me as just weird.

Yes I think it should be something you can set and change at will. TBH I think you should just be able to pick at the beginning (as in Pokemon X/Y) or have the 'default' color be randomised so that it's not a set thing that only darker-skinned people have to wait to build Shampoodle and pay to change their skin. It would be nice if skin color was a purely cosmetic feature for people, but it isn't - it's got baggage. Making it a free choice for characters seems like the best bet as a result.

I would really like to see different skin tones added to the game (without tanning). Maybe with a future AC game? It looks like Nintendo is at least leaning that way, as the trainers in Pokemon Sun and Moon have a little bit of diversity in skin color.

^ This.

Especially since they did take other features from HHD, such as being able to move your furniture the same way, except for the half-tiles/smaller tiles, and they added a whole new campground. If it weren't for that, honestly, I'd argue that it might be hard or even impossible to add HHD features, but apparently it's possible.

Also, pleasantly surprised to see that no one so far has commented why it's not really a problem, or some similar garbage (knock on wood).

i'm white and tbh i can't imagine not having the option to see my skin color represented in my character, especially in such a personal experience like animal crossing.
it'd be so easy to be able to change skin color!! harriet could be like "hey check out this new tanning booth, it's cool because it can make your skin lighter or darker and you can keep it that way as long as you like". that's not even the only thing that would work. maybe there could be a tanning booth for your own home you could buy from her. and like someone already said, the default skin color should be randomized at the beginning to avoid that "white is the default for everything" implication.
and it'd be nice to keep my skin light, too. i don't like carrying umbrellas when it's not raining in summer, but i don't like tans either. it doesn't feel right to have myself represented in the wrong skin color, and it'd suck if i had to deal with that all year.

Really wish they would have went ahead and changed this with the update just like they did for the Mii masks. I've gotten used to my character being pale over the years but more options are always appreciated

I really wish they would have included easier tanning or the ability to choose skin tone. I am pale as heck and have always had a more accurate interpretation of myself in AC games and I wish everyone could have that. :(

"Kudos, I guess, to the cis, straight, white men who have no problem with playing as Faith in Mirror's Edge. Don't worry. You can always get back to being Gordon Freeman, or Nathan Drake, or Mario, or any of the countless brown-haired, scruffy white guys completely saturating the mainstream video game industry."
lol...
anyway, i don't think that it's racist. yes, they've made a mistake. but in hhd you can change your skin colour as many times as you want. still a bummer though
