Similar Personalities or not? Julian/Shep especially?

I have an example of how a villager's appearance may affect how their dialogue comes across.

A jock neighbor always brags about their muscles and how MANLY they are. However, I have Iggly as my town jock, and if you don't know already penguins aren't the thinnest of the bunch. Especially Iggly. When he brags about his muscles, he seems desperate because he really doesn't have any. Whenever he asks for fruit, he sounds lazy and out of shape.

Did they purposefully make a fat penguin a jock for that reason? So that he seems out of shape and lazy instead of exercise-loving and sports-minded? Because honestly Iggly probably has the most personality of any villager I've ever had in that case! He's mroe unique too.

Jk I misread the post and now I feel stupid :3

I think a lot of it has to do with appearance and maybe even their friendship level.
I hate Rizzo and don't speak to him much.
I loved Rolf and he seemed to come across as a friendly yet grumpy old man, Rizzo just comes across as just plain grumpy.

That being said I found Molly to be a more interesting normal than Skye or Merengue, even though she said exactly the same things I just found her to be more interesting and would talk to her more.

Agreed.
Julian and Zell are basically exactly the same.

The only difference I can see is how the villager LOOKS may make you think differently when a villager says the same thing.
I had Diana in my old village and Faye in my new village.
Though they said the same things, I look Diana's words to not be as harsh as Faye solely on the villager appearance... thinkin "Diana refined lady. Faye snooty cute she-wolf"

This! ^.^ <3

I have both Marshal & Julian, and even though they're both smugs, they feel really different!

Julian > more sassy.
Marshal > more cute & tsundere.

and I also have Diana & Ankha (2 snooties) and they're quite different!

Diana >more refined and lady like.
Ankha > more bossy and queen like.

it's funny how you say that about ankha & diana since it was the opposite for me. i befriend diana pretty easily in all restarts of my towns & she always gives me a vday card, etc - it's her. but, ankha was super sweet when i had her for a while, too. much more than diana & i prefer diana. not sure if it was friendship level or anything, but i do think the dialogues & relationships change since i've been through three towns & the dynamics never stayed the same. :Oa

I have 3 smugs in town who always tell me that i'm looking cooler than a fair number of cucumbers so I don't mind lol

I was thinking about this recently because I have both Fuchsia and Mira in my town and Fuchsia is always really sweet, but Mira gets annoyed and a little rude sometimes.
I think maybe each personality has a large pool of dialogue and some characters prefer to use certain dialogue more than others making them seem nicer or ruder.
I guess.

I'm confused  I thought that only normal villagers used speech dialog from all other personalities... Maybe certain personalities share some dialog like uchis and snooties probably.
I think Genji said I was looking 'as cool as a fair number of cucumbers' once too but I kind of overlooked the fact that I thought it was only smug speech when he's a jock.

At least I think it was Genji anyway...

Honestly the personality thing worries me bc ill probably end up with 3 normal..
But in Azalea, Bluebear & Apple seem different
and Tia & Molly dont feel the same

I have three normals right now, I really don't mind. They are all sweet and I feel like they don't say the same things at the same time, if that makes sense. perhaps pulling from a different part of the pool? I have Flurry, Merengue and Lucy.

… I also kinda got the feeling that Ankha was more queen like saying things like "fetch me this" while Willow (another snooty) seems much nicer, more like Blaire (my first snooty)

Not all villagers are exactly the same when they have the same personalities.

Example:

Beau and Stitches were a bit different. I always noticed they didn't say the same things via dialogue, but their houses (I'm out on a snack run!) and letters often times said the same thing.

It just really depends honestly. I'd never keep two villagers that had the exact same personalities.

Also I believe Ankha, even though she's a snooty, she's different as well. I've seen screencaps of her dialogue and she appears to not be the typical snooty, I could be wrong though. (BOW TO ME PEASANT! - Ankha dialogue example)

I've had Mira in my town, she's an Uchi, but she didn't have the same dialogue as my other Uchis (Fuschia and Phoebe) . Fuschia and Phoebe were exactly alike, however.

I had 2 smugs once and.. they pretty much said the same thing. Had to let Marshal go. The only joy I got out of him was pushing him around..

Marshal said he tried to look sharp in his clothes, while Eugene says he's wearing rock-n-roll clothes, I'm not sure if the same thing happens with other clothing types.
But that's like, the only different thing.

Regardless of their personality, I treat each villager differently.

For instance, I saw Zell as the romanticist, O'Hare as the calm; yet mellow dude, and Marshal as a goofball.
Their scripting may be the say, but their take on it can certainly be different. :)

I think they may have their own quirks. I have Pietro and colton, both smugs. Pietro is very friendly and ALWAYS talks about wanting to make people smile, Colton on the other hand is a little bit self centered and flirty, and loves to talk about trains. Although they're dialogue is simaller I don't think that they're programmed exactly the same.
