Can you preserve its durability by making the first 2 chops with a normal axe, then finishing off with the silver, or does changing the axe reset the tree's durability?
chopped 2 trees that were in my way. used the golden axe first and then used the silver axe. they fell down with one silver axe hit and left the pattern.
Nope. It'll "last longer" technically because you're not striking the silver axe 3 times each tree, but it still breaks after the same amount of hits has been done.
Like if the silver axe lasts for 300 hits (obviously not that many lol), you can knock down 100 trees. But if you hit the trees with the normal axe first, and then the last cut is with the silver, you're still only going to get 300 hits from it.
*numbers are not actual number of hits you can do.
Loviechu is right but I don't think that's what you meant. If you do two hits with a normal axe then the last hit with silver you're still guaranteed a fancy stump. So yes, that's more fancy stumps per axe than if you did every hit with silver.
