Should I start over?

I lost my copy of New Leaf MONTHS ago when I brought it around with me one day. I had it in my bag because I had Pokemon X in still and was going to swap cartridges when I finished. When I went in my bag to get it, I didn't see it. I even dumped out my bag and it wasn't in there! It had to have fallen out sometime during the day, I was so devastated :'( it took me just about a year to complete all that work on my town. I meticulously worked on it day in and day out, spent bells and TBT through this forum to get my desired villagers and furniture, I'd collected so many badges and nearly finished my fish/bug/diving catalogs...only for it all to just go down the drain.

I've thought about it here and now since then, and I'm still on the fence about if I should just cut my losses and start anew. Even if it means starting from rock bottom again. Have you had to restart your game before? Got any thoughts for me that can hopefully help me decide?

I think it mostly just depends on whether or not you want to put in all the effort again with a new town. My game had been lost for years but I didn't do anything that amazing with my town. You could try something completely new with a different theme and everything, but like I said, it depends if you're up to doing the work all over again.

It really just depends, do you want to play again? I've reset pretty early on and reset older games but it's really down to if you wanna put in the work again
