I've been thinking about this for some time now. I'm not that thrilled with my map layout. It was probably the first layout I picked too as I was so eager to get into the game and start playing. My town was created the day after Christmas last year, so it's still fairly new. I have all the upgrades on main street except for Katrina's shop and I have my train station upgraded as well. If I do end up resetting, I'll need to sell like 90% of my hybrids, bells, and items as I don't plan on keeping them. I might end up auctioning them as I haven't really payed attention to my hybrid shop in the marketplace for a few days. I just don't know if I should reset... I've had this thought for awhile now and have dealt with it for a few months.

Here's my current map:

Here are the pros and cons I've made so far as well:
Pros
  • I can have a better layout
  • My town would feel more like a town the second time around than it is now? (it's like a dump rn as items are scattered everywhere)
  • I can keep on resetting until I have found a perfect layout
Cons
  • I'm 3 villagers away from getting Flurry again
  • I have half of my dreamies, most are in higher tiers :c
  • I would need to have someone transfer a few million of bells, hybrids, furniture, etc
  • I would also need someone to hold a villager or two (still don't know if I should go through with this if I do reset)
  • Would have to start over/slowly get town upgrades, etc

higher tier villagers are easier to find than lower tier because people just cycle them out so you can get your dreamies back pretty quick :)

Okay, in my experience if you don't reset you're not going to get it off of your mind until you do. That's what I did, I thought about resetting for months because I was unhappy with a lot of stuff in my town. Finally I took the plunge and I feel a lot better about my town now. I like my layout more and being able to redo my town with a better plan of what I wanted the second time around was awesome. I'm still working on it, but it's coming along and I'm really happy :)
Also, holding onto items and villagers should be the least of your worries, tons of people will be willing to help you! If you do decide to reset let me know and I can hold as many bells/items/hybrids/villagers in my cycling town as you need.
Good luck with whatever you decide :)

I reset a little over a month ago and I was sooo worried I was going to regret it, but I didn't. My original town had tons of upgrades, I had like 5-6 of my dreamies, and the museum was pretty full, but I still don't regret it. The map & villager placement SUCKED. Like seriously looking back it is so cringeworthy.

I have 4 of my dreamies now, a beautiful town with an amazing map, I've learned how to plot reset, blah blah blah basically I'm just super happy and resetting made all my dreams come true :p

There is a forum for this please don't post this here. Here is the link for the thread.

I started my town on the same exact day as you. I think you should reset, I can see your map isn't great. If you decide to reset and go with a new map, I reccomend having your retail by the train station. You'll have more experience this time around so go for it.

I am all for resetting until you're happy with your town! It's what I did this past December, too, and I'm so pleased with my layout and villagers. I actually just unlocked gracie's shop for the first time, too ;;

It's super easy to find the villagers you want, either on the forums here or on Tumblr, so I don't really think that's a con. And if you build the campsite it just increases your chances.

Though personally I wouldn't sell your bells and hybrids, and likely any items that are difficult to get. If anything I'd find someone to hold them so you can have those for your new town.
