So I've logged a lot of hours into Tirisfal, it's nowhere near where I would like for it to be...but at the same time I've lost a lot of motivation to play. Mostly due to just feeling down in general lately. I'm very attached to my villagers. I've completed my house, unlocked T&T emporium, have 6/9 villager pictures, completed the fossils in my museum, remodeled my train station, and I actually think I only need 5 or 6 more visits from Katrina in order to unlock her shop.

That's...a lot, I feel like. But I'd really like to be able to see and interact with more of the villagers, have a different layout. I don't feel motivated to complete my fish or bug collection, but I feel like if I reset, I might. So I'm thinking about buying a used copy of ACNL instead and perhaps that will satiate my desire to start anew. But for the price of another copy, I'm also thinking to myself...it's just a damned game, and there's no reason to just not start over.

What do you guys think? I'm very conflicted :(

If you can afford it, get a second copy.

I have really enjoyed my second village. The layout is totally different, I have different gendered characters, my villagers are different and I play my second village much, much more casually.

It is actually more relaxing to play my second village. I don't feel as pressured to talk to all of my villagers to make sure someone is not moving. in my first village I have several favorite villagers. In my second village I have one, but even if he moved, I would not be as bummed about it. I barely put any PWPs in my second village and I like it better like that. I am keeping all of my houses smaller in my second village.

It's just a different experience playing a second game. I wasn't in as big of a hurry to get everything or level up. Much more relaxed about it all.

Try it and if you don't like it, resell your second game.

I think you're right...I might just save up for another copy. But then I won't know how to justify to myself that I'm NOT crazy haha

You don't have to justify anything. If you can afford it, go ahead. I have several towns and have good friends here who have more than one. One has 5! That's a bit nuts of us (I got mine as gifts so I was lucky) but a second town is really fun and helpful. I can relax, trade with myself, sell at Re-Tail, do any holiday I want and TT with little fear to get the items I didn't get in my Main Town. I also can store all my extra crap and not worry about much. I am also experimenting with the look and layout of PWP's. For me it's been fun and I'm glad to have another ACNL.

Gaaaaah stop being so persuasive! Actually...I guess that's what I wanted haha.

Another option until you can purchase a second game is to just create a second character in your original village.

That is what I did first and it was fun having a second person to play. You have extra storage then, too. It makes the game seem fresh as the second character starts out "new" and has to build a home, gather items, fill their encyclopedia, etc.

Actually in my first village I have Lily, my mayor and then Luna, the second character.

In my second village I have Max, the mayor, and Leo and Ozzie.

I like having all of the extra people to play. It gives me options.

This is a good idea, I just have to figure out where to put extra houses on my map, haha. I'll do this for a bit and see how it feels.

Yes, I agree. If you can afford one, get another copy! I saved and did that and it's been a life changer (I'm addicted to NL again. XD)

I'd get another copy. I might regret resetting the game in the long run so just to be safe, plus the fact that I am attached to my villagers already would convince me to get another copy.

I agree with getting another copy.My husband thinks I'm crazy for having three, but I got my last two used for cheap and it makes me happy.Getting every fossel etc, etc, takes a lot of time. You may regret resetting.I know I would.

Get a second copy. When I bought mine, I traded in old games I never play, so if you have any around, you can pretty much get it for "free."

I thought about resetting a bunch of times because there were a ton of things I didn't like about my village. But after spending so much time on it, I can't. When I got a second copy, I ended up enjoying my original village so much more again. :)

I feel you. All I have left to do in Noveon is get the last few PWP requests I want, set those up, finalize my paths, and then voila, dream town complete. I got my second cartridge by happenstance; my brother bought the game the same time I did, but he stopped playing, so a few months ago he have me his cartridge and I reset it to create Luneta. Then, a week ago I was looking at a thread that had pictures of all these really cool maps and layouts, and it gave me this unbridled urge to start a new game just to get a cool map...so, I splurged and bought a 3rd cartridge, and now I have Pyrena, too. I finally feel like I have the right number of towns for me. That way I can experience 3 different towns, 3 different sets of dream villagers, 3 different landscaping possibilities. Safe to say I'm never, ever bored.

For me, the rule is if you are unsatisfied with your town layout and placements of pwps or anything about it, and makes you not want to play then resetting is a must.

I dont think you need to get a second copy honestly.. and you save money if you dont get another one. If I were you, I wouldnt buy another one. The only reason why I would buy another one is because I really want to have two finished but different towns. For instance, if I were to buy the second copy I would make a winter, snowy, xmas themed town (including the villagers exterior of home, personality, and kiddish appearance for christmas spirit). However, Im content with the one I have!

You can easily just delete all your save files and start completely fresh like that.

Yes you like your villagers a lot! Thats a big factor! Youve completed the house, unlocked T&T emporium, have 6/9 villager pictures, completed the fossils in museum, remodeled my train station, and close unlocking Katrina. you can get the dreamies you have currently in your town again: tumblr, bell tree villager trading plaza, reddit etc always sell or giveaway villagers! However, those are things you can do again!!

hahaha maybe its because my first ac game ever but I will never get tired of my town. I am currently just waiting for 2 last pwps to get and build but my town is pretty much finished. I played on my bf's digital copy for acnl but he moved back home so I had decided to buy my own copy & 3ds.

yes acnl is my first (you read that right, wish I ran into ac earlier) and only ac game so Im not sure if that makes a difference. For me, the whole point of acnl is creating my dream perfect town. If I create a perfect town then there would be no need for another one. I just need my last 2 pwps to obtain and build but its mostly a finished town. I cant wait to sit on the tree in the plaza to read the history of my town and listen to the ending song with credits! I would never restart or delete my town. It took a lot of planning, time, and effort so Im really proud of it. The feeling of finishing everything will last for an eternity and getting all my dreamies, badges, fishes, bugs, diving creatures once is enough for me. I wouldnt want to do it again.

My theme of my town is a summer get away because it is my favorite season. My town is a dream town that I like escaping to when I feel like it. I log unto it everyday just take a stroll around my whole town and admire everything I have designed. I like my town in any season and weather. When i feel gloomy and I log to see that its raining and playing beautiful rain song its pretty neat <3 You dont have that kind of desire? Make a town you can admire forever? Like a utopia?

the best part of acnl is sharing your town and seeing other people's towns, along with giving away a lot of items or paying for pwps for new players! at least thats what I think!

If you decide to reset or buy a new copy, thoroughly plan out your town and stick to it. Try to really aim for what you really like and dont settle for any less.
consider...
--good town map
--the perfect town name
--decide town theme, the overall atmosphere/look you want
--make sure your town fruit is one you really like!
I like apples best but my town fruit is pear.
However that doesnt really bother much but it might for you
--grass shape: triangle, circle, square
-- building colours: train station (mine is yellow and I dont ever plan to upgrade)
town hall, mine is green
--pick a town theme and stick with it
* make a great town tune and flag!
*pwps that match the theme
* think about which villagers you would love to have based on their personality & looks
*villager home color and interior design & catchphrases + greetings
(i.e. Clambake [da: 5100-4022-5551] is my favorite town to visit in dream suite.
the creator got villagers that go with the forest/autum theme
including the villagers home exterior appearance)
*bushes, flowers, trees that go along with theme
*interior and exterior design of your mayor house
* qr code for path pattern you desire

-- and character face.
you will want to choose a face you like for your character
since you will face it every time you play

once you decided to reset and consider all of that visit a bunch of dream addresses of really awesome and completed towns! The towns Ive seen are: horror, modern city, foresty/rain, disney princess, beauty and beast, alice in the wonderland, zelda, final fantasy, Clue, music, rainbow, spongebob, cat themed towns but of course there are many more I saw. I wouldnt mind seeing a victorian, layton, sherlock holmes, xmas town hopefully i find one! It always inspires me whenever I was placing pwps, villager homes, landscaping etc. Also many online ac communities have a group where they post pictures/discuss their progress in their first town or restart/resets of towns. Maybe joining these groups would help you to create a town that you will forever love and be pleased with!

also many of the acnl players Ive ran into are super perfectionist.. it amazes me and scares me at the same time. However, very few have the unlimited amount of patience to fit their perfectionist urge. They are in a rush to get what they want. They get frustrated and some even quit playing the game for awhile maybe several months because they get tired or upset for losing their dreamies.

if you dont have the time and patience using a map editor or hacking the game to design it how you want is not bad. Ive seen very awesome hacked towns: Vieques dream address 4800-5782-1713 (spring). Of course you really have to know what you are doing when hacking.

I didnt have to get everything I wanted to be satisfied with my town. I personally like apples and wished it was my town fruit but I settled for pear. I did care about how things placed, landscaped, and what villagers I had. But Im glad Im almost finished, it turned out just how I planned and looks dazzling in my eyes.

Wish you the best with your town or new town!! =]

If you had told me a year ago that I'd be starting over, I would have said you were crazy. I put so many hours into a town that I had for more than a year. I liked my town, even though the layout wasn't the greatest, and I really loved my villagers. I had all of the shops, most of the badges, and tons of Bells in my bank account. I thought off and on for a long time, and then took a month off from the game. I came back and played some more, but I didn't enjoy it as much. I restarted my town in April (6 months ago) with a new town name and a completely new mayor (new name and new face) and I chose a map that was completely different from the first one. I love what I have now more than I ever loved my old town. I'd get a second copy if I wanted to try new things. This town is my forever town.

My advice is always the same: If you're not happy, kept starting over until you are happy.
