Should I reset my town?

After my first few months of playing New Leaf I went over a year without playing due to schoolwork taking up all my spare time. I'd let my sister have an account on it (she bought it for me for my birthday, and that was basically the implied condition) and when I returned to it I discovered she'd fully upgraded all the shops, donated all the fossils to the museum and most of the bugs and fish, let all my favourite villagers move out and bought all the silver tools from the museum. Is it worth resetting the town so I can make all this progress myself, or is there still plenty to do in the game? I feel I've kind of wasted the game otherwise.

I think most of the fun is doing these things yourself.Sounds like the town belongs to your sister. If she's no longer playing, then i think you should reset. Then the town will belong to you.If you have any rare furniture pieces or extra bells that you would like to keep, you could ask someone to hold them for you until you get your new town started.

it depends... if you have a bunch of rare items i suggest you should ask someone to hold them for you..
but by the sounds of it, i think you should... it will feel like YOU have made the progress yourself and you will feel like you have achieved something :3

Weigh out the pros and cons.
Cons, are town is completely progressed/ upgraded, museum full, favourite villagers gone.
Pros, are town is completely progressed/ upgraded, museum full? It gets boring at times. LOL
Do you like your layout, etc, will your sister be mad?

My advice would just be to make sure that you 100% want to do it before you actually reset, really think it through and like other posters have said, make sure you weigh up the pros and cons. I reset a town about 7 months ago and as soon as I went onto the home page and saw a random town/villager I was gutted and instantly regretted it :(

You could always just do other things, like focusing on getting your villagers back or decorating your town. If you think it would be fun for you to complete the museum and unlock the shops yourself, it might be worth resetting. Just make sure you really want to do that and ask your sister first. She might want to get her own cartridge to move her villagers and items to it, for example.

Hmm...if you're really attached to it by now, then I would finish up anything your sister didn't do. Otherwise, I would reset and complete the game again on my own. :)

Depends on what your goal is on ACNL and how you like to play your game.
Are you the type who wants to experience the travel in its fullest or you would rather skip some stuff to reach your goal faster?
I am all about the end goal and to do that I time travel. Some people may dislike it but to me its justifiable. I get my daily stuff done and TT a day forwards so I can progress quickly without having to wait an entire day.

Right now, how does your town look like? Does she have a lot of PWPs, are there paths, are your interiors perfect? You should visit some dream towns and see how much work they put into their alternate houses to create restaurants, schools, museums, etc. It sounds to me like your sister did a lot of work but you only missed 1/3 of gameplay because what she did was probably repetetive stuff like earning money for upgrades catching bugs, fishing. You have still a lot of things to do like perfecting interiors, having different houses, placing paths, public projects, getting dreamie villagers, making sure your dreamies' plots are exactly where you want them. You can still collect all the badges and play island games with friends.

View other towns and compare it to yours, are you far from your dream town? If yes, don't bother resetting because I don't think you'll have enough time to achieve what your sister already did. If your town already looks perfect and there is not much to do then reset so that you can do something, right?
