Is my game broken? Sheldon has been in my town since December 11, 2016, and he's never asked to leave. He hasn't changed his shirt in over a year, and he's the only one that ever randomly visits my house ( to be fair, I don't play regularly, and haven't really built up any friendships with new villagers). So many villagers have come and gone in the time Sheldon has been here and I don't even like him all that much. It's like he's stuck, and I'm sick of seeing him and having him burst through my door whenever I'm in my house.

Why won't he leave?

^^ I thought villagers were less likely to move out if you ignored them?

I tried ignoring Ren?e, and she stayed while dreamies moved, so I tried talking to her, writing a few letters, etc. and she moved within five days.

It's weird that Sheldon's never moved though ~

I think it's pretty random lol
I try to ignore the villagers and eventually they'll move out, for me at least.

I've seen this happen before but mostly in cycling towns using the "one year/five days" method. When I tried this cycling method I usually had what I call a town "barnacle"....a villager that never asked to move.I've only had this happen once in a regular,non-cycling town.It took Wart Jr. almost a year to finally ping to move.I was even time traveling a lot to try to get him to ping so I could move him to the frog town I was starting at the time. You said that you don't play regularly so perhaps play on a set schedule for a specific amount of time....maybe two weeks.I know that villagers ping to move randomly but it's still a cycle and Sheldon's turn might come faster if you play on a regular schedule.

When that happens I just get the amiibo card of my desired villager and move the stubborn one out

I know a creepy guy called Sheldon as well. Fortunately this one did change his shirt however was just as peristent. I wish you the best of luck in getting rid of him, telling him to shove off worked for me :)

I'm pretty sure annoying him will make him move out. Still not 100% sure, though.
I read up about this, and apparently, if you talk to them occasionally, they will move out, don't talk to them at all, and they will not do anything. #LOGIC
"oh look! i have some great friends in this town. but they don't talk to me ever :(... LETS MOVE AWAY"
"Oh, I don't have any friends in this town... BETTER STAY AND BE LONELY FOREVER."
Personally, I'd feel guilty because he's so old, but that's irrational.

Well it doesn't explain why he doesn't just move, but I know they won't ping you at all if you haven't talked to them recently.

You have to greet villagers every day, otherwise they'll ignore you, and you'll never get a ping from them letting you know whether they're planning to move out or not.

Treating disliked villagers good or bad will not change the likelihood of them moving out, as the process is completely random. If you want to speed up the procedure, try maximizing your villager count to 10 or use amiibo cards for an even faster pace. Fast forward time by 2-3 days at a time and use the swimsuit trick for more pings. Hope this helps.

I've had this happen to me too, but with Olaf. He was so stubborn, that I tt'd to 2050, and started a new save to see if he would leave. Nope.
All my other villagers moved and gone, but he stayed.
I had already ignored him for 3 months before I got frustrated and tested that out.
He did eventually leave though. The magic trick? Talking to him everyday and making him believe I was his best friend. I noticed that any villager I talked to daily and favored asked more often to move so I applied that logic to Olaf.
It took a week or two after that, and he sent me his photo, which I quickly tossed in the trash bin.

This happened to me too, but with Tom. It's been like 2-3 months since the last time he wanted to leave but he did tell me twice before that he wanted to do that. But as the time goes, I actually don't want him to leave. He's given me his pictures twice, one i just got recently from his birthday two days ago
