I want to fill up my museum on my own, so I don't trade for bugs, fish, fossils, or art. I also don't want to get seasonal furniture before it's the appropriate time in my hemisphere to do so. I also don't trade for K.K. Slider songs as I'm looking to finish that collection on my own. I am however, open to trading for furniture, clothes, and DIYs, especially colour variants, because it takes a long time to gather all of these things!

I can see how it would be more rewarding to get items on your own. I've had the fortune of being able to visit many cataloguing parties, so I have many items in my catalogue now. It definitely makes shopping a little less fun, but it also could make decorating more fun as I now have more items and sets to work with.

The trading is part of the game. If you enjoy it and makes you look forward to playing the game, why not? I'm assuming you and your husband have different switches/island? If that's the case, he can playing his own way and you can play your own way. Even being part of this forum community is somewhat part of the game and I'm all for it.
You're right, but it doesn't have to be! I played wild world and new leaf for years without ever trading online. This one does push it more, but not everyone has an online account and can only take with people nearby, if they know any.

Hi OP. I think we have the same newfound addiction and I am more interested in trading than doing works at my own island, LOL! It started with selling turnips at someone's island. It opens my eyes to a whole new side of ACNH. I never go online in ACNL. So it really truly a new thing for me. Then I hate seeing all the DIY dups scattered around my island, they are a sore to the eyes, urrgghh!! Now I am more comfortable going online, trading with other players and the community here is really wonderful. I even host my first ever turnips exchange.

I'm getting all K.K songs in my catalog by myself or trading locally with my family. I bred as much of the hybrids as I could, Only really trading for blue roses bc I was not gonna do that process. Next on the list is collecting all the art.

I trade furniture and DIYs online since a lot of them are either difficult or impossible to get by yourself. But when it comes to the museum fish, bugs, fossils, and art I'd rather get them from my island and I don't mind missing fish or bugs in any season since I plan to keep playing for more than a year so I'll get more chances to catch them =) Oh and KK songs too, since we have a good chance of getting them all though the nook shopping app

The only things I don’t trade online for are the fish, bugs, fossils and real art. (But I have sold spare fossils to people who want to decorate their island). I want to fill up my museum in my own time.

I'm sorry, but it would take forever to finish collecting recipes if not for online trading. Celeste alone has 47 recipes, and her visits are infrequent enough to be annoying.

The only recipes I won't go online for are ones not currently obtainable due to the wrong zodiac month or season. I am more than willing to wait to obtain those on my own island.

Fossils are easy to come by. Usually finish those first in the museum cuz its not time gated by types only available some parts of the year. I don't need to do online trades for those. And seasonal items. I'll just wait, there's really no rush. And can u even trade bugs and fish? I always catch my own so that's another thing I never need online trades for.

Everything else is on the to do list.

The only things I don't use online for are catching bugs/fish (well, I caught the golden trout online on another island, but that's the exception rather than the rule) and seasonal/event items. I guess also hybrids as well, since I've mostly been trying to grow them myself (though I did get a few through a giveaway). Otherwise I've been using online for basically everything, since it either speeds up the process (DIYs, fossils, art), allows you to get stuff you otherwise wouldn't have access to (furniture, Nook Miles items, fruit, flowers) or allows you to make big money quick (stalk market). I definitely don't mind relying on online play as much as I have, since New Horizons has basically introduced a whole new world to me in terms of online play and I've decided to incorporate that into how I play the game.

I won’t go to other islands for bugs and fishes or seasonal recipes since that’s part of what to look forward to in different seasons. I was supposed to avoid trading for fossils as well but it’s been weeks without that one pachy skull I was missing and it was getting frustrating.

I wanted to complete the museum with the fossils I found myself. I did buy fossils from someone who was also selling diys because I wanted fossils to decorate my island.

I only do the stalk market on my own island or with close friends. Tbh it takes away from the whole idea since you’re always guaranteed a high price online

I dont fish/catch bugs on other people's islands, but thats about it. I dont look super hard for seasonal stuff, but if someones selling and I think the price is reasonable I'll go for it.

Nintendo is def pushing online trading this time round, without it its literally impossible to finish your catalog, and it would take like 10 years to finish the art section of your museum lol

I mainly just limit the amount of time I spend trading instead? Like I only try to trade on weekends and on weekdays if I go to someone's town it'll only be for shops or NPCs, and if I rly wanna trade I'm only gonna look for an hour or so.

I have played both WW and NL without ever going online, but I have had an online subscription since a few weeks.. and it's definitely somewhat addicting, trading. I mainly trade for furniture, since I have a very specific them for which I need very specific colours and items... So I've decided it is fair game to trade for those, since the Nooks seem to only give me duplicate items in their shop or it's in a very wrong colour. I also have traded for some of the specific DIYs I need, for some hybrids (though most I have grown myself) and I have participated in the stalk market twice now. I don't plan on doing the latter religiously and with only a maximum of one trip to another island. This way, earning Bells will still have some necessity and I like not to everything instantly:)

Filling up my museum I want to do by myself though - like many others here. I am thinking about buying the fake pieces of the art I need for my island for decorative purposes, however. An ancient Greek island is nothing without at least some beautiful, valiant and robust statues :p I still have to save for those, because even the fakes are very expensive everywhere.

I gave up trying to breed blue roses, after seeing how complicated it was, and just bought two. Today one just popped up on my island among my orange and purple roses! Oh well.

My rule is I don't buy hybrids unless I've been able to successfully breed them on my own first. Right now I don't buy hybrids b/c I don't have space for flowers anyways.

Something that I never buy is bug/ fish catching and fossils. Honestly, I've never really thought about buying fossils, I just figured I'd finish it when I finish it (and I have actually finished it!).

I feel like, I want to catch the fish and bugs when they are in season on my own island. I'm not too eager about getting them because I suppose other priorities are more important to me at the moment. I also would just love to feel like I completed the museum on my own.

i guess the main thing for me are bugs/fish - i’ve caught a few on other islands in different months but for the most part, i prefer to catch bugs and fish on my own island ;;
