Selling your town and map resetting

Hello all, sorry if this has been asked before, but when you sell your town and start a new one are you restricted to the first four maps you see? I'm worried if you try to reset to get a different selection of maps you will loose the bells you sold your old town for.

From what I heard, it seems you may lose what you got, but you could transfer it to another person's town to get around that. You'll also lose the bells you already have in your ABD, so you might have to find someone to hold your bells, anyway.
