I can’t for the life of me find the video that originally pointed this out to me as I’ve watched many many “dissecting the direct” videos but this really stood out. I don’t think I’ve seen a closed door in animal crossing. I hope it’s a new leaf situation where you have to talk to sable for x amount of days until you gain access.

I wonder what’s inside..

I guess it depends on what the shop looks like from the outside. If there's a smaller building attached, it may be something. It could also be nothing.

it looks like we'll be able to access it at a later date. you could walk right up to it judging from the space, so i don't think it's for decoration.

maybe if we get a high enough friendship level, like how in old games the sisters would tell you about their backstories if you talked to them regularly enough like you said. then we could unlock a secret room with some unannounced feature. maybe rare items to buy? i also wonder how final upgrades are going to look and that could affect a lot.

someone online also pointed out it seems like nook's cranny also has some sort of door to the left. it's japanese style so i can't tell if it's meant to be a little alcove or is an actual door to someplace else.

I don't want to get my hopes up because it could be nothing. It would be cool if that led to something related to Labelle or "Label" now though!

I always wished we knew where NPCs lived. It would be awesome if these doors led to their living quarters. Maybe if we befriend them we will eventually be invited in after hours. I'm probably dreaming, but I would love that so much.

maybe it’ll be label like how she was adjoined with them in new leaf? so instead of her being a ‘tourist’, she’d be back to being a full-time character :3

Nintendo loves adding these doors with no use so I doubt it’ll really be anything, but I noticed it too and it’s kinda interesting. Brewster’s cafe had a secret door that I’ve always wanted to go into to, like if you can’t access it why is It every there lol

Maybe it's an addition to the store? Maybe it's a pattern room!

I think it?s just aesthetic tbh, or maybe when we can expand it?ll go into another connected store

Unfortunately I also think it?s just for aesthetics. Compared to all other accessible doors it?s seems much too narrow to enter?Sabel looks like she wouldn?t even fit through sadly.

I noticed upon rewatch that Nook?s Cranny has a door off to the side as well, so I?ll just imagine it to lead to their living spaces if we don?t gain access or find out more. It?s a nice head canon at the very least :3

The door on the left next to Sable?

Probably just a storeroom aesthetic.

These are my thoughts exactly. The moment I saw the door in Nook's Cranny I figured it was just blocked access to their living space or storage room. The fact that this one is behind the counter makes no sense for it to lead to another part of the store.

I took a bigger screenshot and sharpened it a bit to see it better...

I don't think they would add the door randomly, you could easily put decoration on the same spot.

There's also this screenshot of the store with a display window on the left side of the building:
