Hey guys. I'm still using the little 4GB card that came with my system and it's quickly getting full. I want to upgrade to a 32GB (since I read that that's the largest compatible option).

My worry is about transferring my data from the old card to the new. I've been told it can corrupt the game data if you have a digital copy of New Leaf. They said it's safe with a physical copy, but I have digital.

Nintendo's support site says to transfer like this:
  1. Copy files from old SD card to computer
  2. Copy files from computer to new SD card
  3. Put card back into system and... done
Straightforward, and how I assumed it worked.

However, I was warned that this method will corrupt my game file. I really don't want to lose the almost-year of play I've done so far.

Wanted to verify if this is true, and if so, what other ways there are to switch to using a new card.

I changed MicroSD cards 3 times this way. xD; From a 2GB to a 4GB to an 8GB and finally to a 32GB. Worked flawlessly every time.

My friend also upgraded from a 2GB to a 4GB last week following those same steps and all was well.

We both have digital copies of New Leaf.

That's all I needed to know, probably. Thanks a ton. xD

I'll just risk it and see what happens then.

No matter what you do, there is always a teeny tiny chance that data may get corrupted, but the chance is so small you shouldnt even worry about it.

The bigger SD card is sooooo worth it. I recently upgraded to a 32GB from a 2GB.

Format its destination card first, then just copy and paste. I've done it multiple times.
