Heyyyy i'm making a horror based town. The landscaping (outdoors) is practically done!
I'm looking for tips on the houses. What makes a animal crossing house scary? Any tips?

I think K.K. Dirge is creepier haha.

I'd say keep the lighting off in all rooms to make it darker. The creepy furniture set is good to use! Dolls and axes seem to be popular too. There's heaps of wallpaper and flooring you could use: basement wall/floor, concrete wall/floor, ramshackle wall/floor etc. Ticking grandfathers clocks could work too.

I would recommend the old wall and floor, maybe also parts of the sloopy series to give
a room a more "messy flair", like ghosts messed around in a room and now there is chaos.
Trash on the floor could work too, like those trash you can fish out out of the water. Maybe
use also some of those retro items like retro stereo or retro TV for example, as I think they
would fit in a scary theme.

I think older looking furniture works best in a scary house...anything vintage, classic, rococo, etc. Also, the creepy set, of course. Creepy statues and paintings and suits of armor work for an old-fashioned haunted house feel.

I agree with the earlier suggestion of keeping things dark or just use one small lamp that gives off red, blue, or purple light. Those colors feel the most ghostly or spooky to me.

You can also make specialized houses or rooms. Churches, graveyards or hospitals can be very creepy. You also might want to consider no music in certain rooms. When you go from sound to sudden silence, it can put you more on edge.

that's coco! she's a usual staple of a creepy town

Lucky the mummy dog is also a good villager to use in a horror-themed town.

I would have Lucky and Ankha as villagers. Lucky fits more with a creepy style town because he is a mummy dog. I would also recommend a grandfather clock. Those are vintage and mostly associated with haunted houses. I would leave the grandfather clock in a silent room (no music playing) and turn the lights off to the darkest setting. Those are just my tips.
