Scanning amiibo for the items

Can I scan a splatoon amiibo in happy home paradise to decorate Cece and Viche's homes? Will that also unlock the items automatically? Or do I have to scan at the Nook Stop terminal specifically for the splatoon items?

As far as I know it doesn't matter where you scan them. I personally scan in Photopia for their posters, and that definitely unlocks the items
