Okay, thanks!I didn't know it at first either and read about it a few days ago. I've tried it multiple times with success now, and the only thing you need to do is save & quit and then start up again and walk around town. No need to talk or anything. There is (almost) always one villager (that is walking outside) that'll ping you, but it's random which so you have to walk by every one of them.
Try the diving trick instead then. The diving trick worked much better for me than the save&continue trick.I can't seem to get any pings
I've definitely walked in front of ever villager out and ive tried it about 10 times now.
Does anyone know if it's true that the saving trick works only if a villager is planning on moving out? I've never tried this trick myself but I recall I might have read something like that. Not at all sure though because it's been a long while since I read anything about it at all, but I thought I'd ask anyway. :d
(by the way, now that I'm trying it out, it's not working for me either)
With the diving trick, you have to wait five minutes in between each ping or the villagers won't be ready to ping you. I recommend loading the game and checking for pings, saving, changing the clock forward 5 minutes and then reloading. It makes sense in my brain but I don't know if it would work.
