I guess the saddest I got in AC was when I let my nine-year-old Japanese host sister play my English copy of Wild World and she sold everything in my inventory. That included the first ever framed photograph I had gotten, from Gwen. While Gwen wasn't one of my very favorite villagers, I was quite attached to her because she was one of my original 3 villagers, and I had to work hard to befriend her because of her snooty personality.
I was so sad! But of course I understood that my host sister had absolutely no idea what she had been selling (and probably didn't even know talking to Nook would sell anything. Whoops! So after that, I only let her play if I was supervising, and eventually she got her own (Japanese) copy, so we didn't have to share mine.
We made a lot of happy memories playing WW together though, and that's how we really bonded even when she didn't speak English and my Japanese was somewhat basic. So in the end, the fun and happy memories far outweighed the disappointment of the photograph!
