Heyyy guys, Aesthetics here..

I was on Instagram, and saw a fortnite post, this kid was on the news.

Basically there was a tornado, when he was in the middle of Fortnite. Mind you, this is for real lmao.

"basically, I was in the middle of a game in Fortnite, and I saw roofs coming off of houses, but I was like, I only got a few people left in my game!"

"powerlines starting falling, but I had to kill these people. I called my brothers and sisters to stay in the bathroom, and everything would be okay."

That’s ridiculous. Fortnite just needs to die already, lmao. Though I’m sure as soon as it does everyone will jump to something new and it’ll become a game fad...

Sigh, it must've been nice in the past when there wasn't any ridiculous stuff like this happening.

Sounds like me trying to play Mario Kart lol

But seriously wth was that kid doing xDDD
How do you even comfortably play a video game while the roof flies off your house

I do not understand how someone could have such little self preservation as to think 1 match is worth risking their life. Though I do not believe this is the fault of Fortnite specifically. People have been playing online games for decades, and the vast majority would never have this issue. This was just someone who happened to have very poor judgement.

It's the parents fault for letting him play. There was a news article I saw from Australia where this kid took two years off school cause he was playing fortnite and his mum tried to take his PS4 away so he physically assaulted her by headbutting her. She reached out to social media saying games are bad for children and the response she got from other mothers was the greatest thing I've seen.

What they said has restored my faith in humanity. The vast majority of parents who responded said that it was entirely her fault and that she was too soft on her child. They said that if their child was that 'addicted' they'd throw the console under the lawn mower and drag their child to school.

I feel like even if parents were strict some kids would still be dumb enough to risk death to play a video game. To me they can be removed by natural selection for all I care, those habits are hard to change once laid as a foundation during youth.

I am so sick of fortnite. It has literally controlled people's minds. That's all people talk about at my school and I couldn't care less about it. Why isn't the trend a good game like ACNL or like everyone at the school is excited for AC Switch. I wish it would just die and stop people like this guy putting his life on the line for a stupid online game. I can't believe someone would even do that.:(

I actually don't know anything about Fortnite but I actually thought it seemed pretty harmless. I don't think it would be any better at all if it were any other game involved in this situation, or any other activity at all. The issue here is the person who made this decision.

I don't think I have cringed more than I did with this...

Fortnite is just one of those games: the game is fine (I don't play it myself though), but the majority of the people who play it are just like that. That's how popular games seem to be, when it dies down and a new game takes the spotlight, the bad parts of the community seem to leave first. People just need to teach their kids just wow...

Oh man, I remember feeling that way about games as a kid. Fortnite must be incredibly addictive on top of that as well. I really hope they learn from this situation and understand how incredibly dangerous their behaviour was to their family.

i don't like """cringe"""" to describe people it's most of the time very mean. this kid had bad judgment as do most kids especially kids who are younger like in middle school or early high school. it's not fortnite's fault and it's not a parent's fault it's a bad decision and also the bad decision isn't nearly as bad as people are saying it is they're just talking about it and hopefully the people are okay there are lots of stories of people who were doing other things

if you look at the story he says he saw what was happening, went back to the game, and then realized just how bad it was here's a quote from new york post:

“I sit back down because I only have a couple people left in my game,” he said. “I was going to try to finish the game, but then it started getting worse and I started to see the power lines come down.”

and this story isn't really a story the local news was talking to people who were there on phillips avenue and he was there and when she asked what he was doing he was honest it's only news because it's fortnite and it would get a lot of people riled up

full quote:

While seeking shelter in the bathroom, Williams was still focused on his game.

"Honestly, I was thinking about the game, but I was hoping everybody was OK around me," Williams said.

he then even went to check on his neighbors which you don't see a lot of kids doing in situations like this. i think this thread is approaching this story with a bias. kids play video games. i played animal crossing during the hurricane in florida even when the power went out because trees crashed into our power lines. it's just a bunch of people going OH NOEZ HAHA FORTNITE WHAT A JOKE HAHA KIDZ THESE DAYS AND THEIR VIDEO GAMES CRINGE LOL

>:{

some people drove into a tornado !!! and took VIDEO OF IT (i think the same tornado) and it's not oh bother adults these days! can't see what's on the road! all those people seeing disasters taking their phones out call 911! :///////

I initially saw the story like he was playing as a tornado went past his house and everyone took shelter but him. If that was the case then I don't care what game he's playing or if he was brushing his teeth instead of playing fortnite. It maybe a lack of his judgement to take shelter but if his parent were home they shouldve told him to protect himself and they shouldve educated him prior to this happening. That's the point I was trying to make.

Some games takes control of ppl minds, like example those stupid smart phones that every single dumb kid always wants.

i don't have any issue with kids who like fortnite, they're usually just having harmless fun and they'll grow out of it eventually, but this stuff really gets my goat. especially since it seems to be a violent game (i don't know anything about it, but i think it's better for kids than call of duty and that crap, at least). kids are still developing, and childhood is probably the most influential part of life, so parents should really be more cautious about what their kids are getting exposed to, and more forceful about important things like education and, you know, evacuating from a goddamn tornado.

i'm glad to hear it's not as bad as it seems. i totally agree with you but i still think there are too many parents who let their kids get addicted to games, especially violent ones. i don't really blame the kids, their brains aren't finished yet and they're very impressionable. and the fact that a lot of kids like fortnite doesn't seem to be an inherently bad thing, even if it gets annoying for older people.
