Sooo, I was interested in how many items exactly were locked behind WA RV characters, and it's actually a lot---182 total items !!

Didn't see a list on MoriDB that showed only the RV card characters, so while making this, I didn't include anything that could have been obtained from previous DLC, Harvey's Shop, other in game RVs, or NPC Amiibo Figures (as they're still easy to obtain).

So, here's the list of items that are ONLY accessible if you have the WA RV card set:
http://moridb.com/catalogs/JyMLOJ0UuK?limit=50&offset=0

Imagine once the servers go down, people would have to pay over 400$ just to finish their catalogs ! :o

I mostly made this thread as a way to rant about the absurdity in the card sets.

Well, guess people will try then to just complete their catalogs as much as they can once the servers are down, as I'm pretty sure nobody would spend so much money just to complete a virtual catalog in a video game. Especially since you get for that money a Switch and New Horizons. In general, I think Nintendo made a mistake about letting the amiibo cards becoming that rare to a point where a bunch of them became so expensive now. Just look how much you have to pay now to get those Sanrio cards for example.

Exactly !! And locking so many items behind cards they didn't intend to do big releases for, nearly 200 items hidden behind a paywall with 0 other way to obtain them.

I totally agree with you. Finding anymore cards nowadays is getting to be pretty annoying. It got so annoying for me, I eventually gave up. I didn't realize there was so many items locked behind these cards. Makes me wish I had gotten some, but now there's not much I can do about it. Also, I'm definitely not paying that much money for what people want for them nowadays. It's just too ridiculously high. :/

RIGHT? I've seen SINGLE cards listed for more than a new copy of NL. That means in some cases, it'd be cheaper to buy a whole new game for the free card included than to buy the card itself. LOL.

Let's hope they get rereleased with an art update, like in a boat or something, for NH.

Even when the cards were out, they were hardly stocked. I consider my self lucky that I have 31 out of 50 RV cards, but I also have some villager cards, many of which are not desirable to me. Not only that but I didn't have a job back then (I was still in school, senior year of high school) so my source of money for cards was extremely limited as it was. I focused more on getting the figures since they seemed to be more available and it wasn't a mystery of what I was getting.

That said, I do still try to complete my catalogue of stuff I'm missing. Thank god for the Retail boards here and for lots of nice people trading and selling items.

Its pretty ridiculous at a consumers standpoint especially now, but for a company like Nintendo that cherish their IPs knowing fans do as well amiibos were pretty ingenious. I don't really agree with it myself as I feel just fine with what the game provides. However, I can definitely see why it was successful, and in a business aspects that is what happens.

there totally needs to be a group meet up to use other peoples cards at a cafe or something that would be amazing. then you wouldnt need to spend ridiculous amounts just getting the rv stuff

I feel like it's the first time I see Mello is talking pretty logical. (heheh) But yes, that's what happens in the business and I don't see anything wrong with it, as it's exactly the purpose/reason why the companies are there - to make a profit. How they plan out things well is why they're there for. It's nothing different from other genre of companies - cars, cosmetic blands, fashionable clothes, furniture, etc. They put time, efforts in order to produce something nice and expensive. If you have enough money to afford it, you can get it, and if not, you can't. Theory is the same. It's been mystery for me, wonder why young people believe it's supposed to be the way that they can get it regardless, while they seem to be understanding that they can't buy facy car/furniture/expensive bland cosmetics/and so on when they don't have enough money.
Also, the reason why its price has raised is not something you can blame Nintendo. Because it looked a something, people wanted it, and that's what made the price go high.

Oh that's pretty nice idea actually!

I feel like once as Nintendo fully realized how popular New Leaf was, they realzied they could make money. Since it came a few yaers after the reaease they relaized fans would but this stuff. I also beleive they added RVs to add more funiture items for fans and players!

Aw why yes me be smart sometimes.

What really annoyed me with the sanrio cards is that they weren't even available in NA, so I had literally no chance at getting them. I managed to grab a pack or two of the welcome amiibo ones but finding amiibo cards is almost impossible now.
Luckily there are pepople who sell knock-offs of the sanrio and welcome amiibo cards that work really well. (certain sellers make them look exactly like the legit version)

I've seen knockoffs for the sanrio and special characters, like MH, the splatoon characters, LoZ, etc. Never for the WA cards though, so that's interesting. I always thought buying the super expensive full sets would be the only way to obtain them.

Don't get me started about these cards. Here where I live we only got wave 1 with the normal villagers, and then a little bit of wave 2. No RV villagers, nothing. I had a friend that ordered a few from Japan at an outrageous price and at that point it wasn't even worth collecting them anymore because I was sure I was never going to get the whole collection. Tbh I have the first wave completed even with the original folder and all, but I was so heartbroken by the business model they used with the rv cards I never got around getting all the in-game items because it is really an endeavor to search for each set and item. To this day I'm furious. :x

Oh wow. I guess I should count myself lucky then. I finished all the figures and card sets outside of the two Japanese promo cards. I agree with how poorly the cards were handled, but I blame Amiibo Festival for that mess. That crappy game really tanked peoples interest in AC amiibo because it was that bad. And since that game was so heavily connected with the amiibo cards, people wanted nothing to do with them either. That made the card sales do super poorly which caused nintendo to stop making them. Yeah, they worked with Happy Home Designer at the time too, but that game was a handheld spinoff, not a console game, and its pretty good compared to crapiibo Festival. Plus everyone was expecting a wii u mainline Animal Crossing game and when it didn't happen...:(.

A lot of people started getting interested in the cards after the New Leaf update, but it was too late by then. After Nintendo saw the bad AC amiibo sales because of the Amiibo Poo-festival, they limited the RV cards, and stopped making them after only a few months. :( I got lucky because I got a whole box from a Japanese seller with all the rv cards.

I'm not sure if I can link them here so I won't, but if anyone is still looking for the rv cards, there are still a few Japanese sellers on ebay selling the whole 20 pack box for less than $100 USD, so maybe try there if you really want a set. That's what I did. The cards are region free, so even if they're Japanese, they'll still work just as good in your game, and the're authentic if you care about that. As for the regular 1-4 cards, google classicgamesrevisited and check out their amiibo section. You can find the 1-4 cards very cheap there.

Had a similar problem back then too. While they were released in my country, it seems that only certain
shops got them and then only like a handful of packages, which made those cards already rare on their
release day. I remember how I asked several shops if they had the Sanrio cards available and either
they had no clue what I mean or had nothing left anymore. Later when I checked online, the prices
were already ridiculous high, especially on sites like eBay.

As for the Welcome amiibo cards, I never even saw them sold in any shops in my area. Like when I
checked out the shops, no one had them in the shelves, I mostly got to hear that they will not get
them and are also not able to order them. To get those I had to order them online, which really
sucked because the price for one package was way too expensive.

Nowadays, there was only one shop left in my area that sold series 2 and 3 of the regular amiibo
cards for a while. Not sure if they still offer them. Overall, it's an disaster to get any amiibo cards.
However, it's pretty easy to get the amiibo figures, GameStop for example have tons of them now,
even figures like Rover or Kapp'n which I didn't saw back then when I was looking for them.

I literally just bought Julia and Sandy, but they need to be shipped from Japan. I've never seen a WA sold locally, very rarely a games shop will sell some online for relatively cheap. But this hardly ever happens. I got a really great deal a few months ago winning an auction on eBay for some WA cards, but it all seems to depend on finding the right deal. Hopefully Nintendo will produce some more if they are still usable in New Horizens (by that I mean I really, really hope they are lol)

As it is they are far to difficult to find and too limited, they need to be more accessible!

I bought a pack of WA cards for $5.99 on Amazon around the time the WA update dropped, just so I’d be able to use the feature. I was hesitant to buy another one because luck never seems to be on my side and I dudn’t want to waste money for a bunch of duplicates, but I took my chances and bought another pack. Luckily didn’t get any duplicates, but I stopped at 2 packs. Kinda wished I tried my luck on a 3rd, but I got Spike and he’s the main one I wanted.

I’m not a fan of Nintendo hiding items/features in amiibo, but since it’s easy to find people online with RVs to visit, it isn’t too much of a big deal. Just sucks for people who may not be able to play online or buy a bunch of WA cards in order to complete their catalog or buy furniture they really like.
