rude comments about your island

so I had an unfortunate experience last night while hosting a community event for visiting Celeste where someone (a stranger as well) came and made a nasty comment about my island. It really shocked me and I’ve been trying to ignore it but it hurt me a lot as AC is one of my biggest passions - I spend hours working on my towns and it’s something I find a lot of joy and peace in, so to have a stranger come in and be rude was kind of shocking. I was wondering if anyone has had something similar happen as I’m feeling deflated still

There really are people like that, sadly. If I was in your shoes, I'd be like "damn, must've had alzheimers bc i dont remember asking lol"
Also there are newer AC players thanks to COVID-19 so it does have more broader range of people and...people like that. LOL

i just want to say, sometimes negative comments are fueled by jealousy so try to ignore what they said, i know its much much easier to remember the negative things rather than the positive but think about your villagers who always remind you how much they love the island

It’s probably newcomers or players that are just jealous and insecure that they have nothing else to say, just ignore them and I assume your town is also nice looking. Don’t worry about it too much!

It sucks that someone decided to be a complete arsehole to you while you weren't even asking for mandatory entry fees. I just want you to know that although I haven't been on your island before, the fact that you have spent hours working on it and you do find joy in it tells me that it's a very lovely island. As long as you like how your island looks, it is perfectly fine and beautiful, I am sure.

I know it will be very hard to get that person's remark out of your head but I am sure there are more people who have commented positively about your island; those comments matter more! Here's a virtual hug from me to you. /hug

Was it someone on here? Or just some rando? As someone else said, most nasty things said are fueled by jealousy and insecurity, or you know, people just like to be rude. It is what it is. If you like it that's all that should matter. don;t play games like this to impress other people or you'll end up miserable everytime.

You can use the phone app to type faster, that’s usually what I use.

It's impossible to avoid nasty people, so I've just prepared my mental state that I'll eventually have to deal with one sooner or later. Luckily, these nasty people can't do too much damage to our islands.

I "work" within a community filled almost entirely with toxic people.
I deal with a lot of criticism/jokes/insults because I like anime and am a furry, in a community set which actively mocks both things.

This isn't me saying "Man up", this is me saying that gaming is a far cry from gaming of yesteryear, communities are becoming increasingly toxic with people hurling around insults and stupid comments "FOR THE LULS XD". While it may feel like a personal attack and might hurt if you're unused to it, you have to remember that person is on the other end of a screen, has 0 actual baring on your real life and you two will never ever meet, they don't know you or your past, nor do they care. All they want is to throw out stuff in the hopes you'll react and give them more material to hurl back at you, so they can go to their small collection of "friends" and go "HEY GUESS WHAT I MADE THIS ONE PERSON SO TRIGGERED ON ANIMAL CROSSING LOL". Sad individuals.
You love your creation and it's all that matters, some "troll" giving you grief shouldn't effect that for a second, when you let one troll effect you they won't stop because "you're a human being", they'll continue because it gives their existence some semblance of meaning. Just rise above it and know your work culminates into something you love and enjoy.

Again, I say all this as someone who is in a community set filled almost exclusively by trolls (infact, this is the only community I am a part of which isn't and is "wholesome").

I haven't had such an experience yet but want to drop in and say they were super disrespectful considering that people pour hours into their island-building. Your island is and will always be amazing.

Omg that is such a jerk move. I’m so sorry that happened to you. Definitely agree it was either a troll looking for attention or someone who was just jealous. But I do know how hard it can be to block out negative comments even if you know you shouldn’t take them seriously. Try to remember the pleasure YOU get from your island. Did you enjoy designing it? Do you enjoy living on it? Do you have a spot that always makes you happy because it turned out just how you wanted? Focus on those feelings.

For my part, nobody has ever come to my island and said anything rude on chat. But last week I spent about an hour building a zen garden and it was the first terraforming project I tried out. So I called my dad in to show him (we’re all staying together due to the quarantine and he plays AC too) and the guy gives me a 10 minute critique about this and that design principle and how I did it all wrong. So yeah, I have to live with my critic lol.

thank you everyone for being so kind <3 I know there are players like that unfortunately but in all my years playing I’ve never encountered any, plus I was struggling a bit mentally yesterday too so I think it impacted me extra. I know my island isn’t perfect yet but I love it and find so much happiness in building it up, plus I love my villagers and just my time spent there playing and that’s all that matters!

I hope you're feeling better now, and I'm sorry that you had to tolerate a rude comment while you were feeling under the weather. And yep, that's really all that matters since it's your island and you're technically the one "living" in it so if it makes you happy then it's good enough!

Wow, the sheer audacity to insult you after you graciously allowed them onto your island to visit Celeste??! It's hard to believe somebody would be so rude! I'm sorry that happened to you.
I do know the feeling of having your work dismissed or criticised, and while those comments are few and far between, they're the ones that stick in your mind the most.
Just remember that for every person who wants to say something snide to make themselves feel big and powerful, there's probably 50 more who would see and appreciate the hard work and love you've poured into your island.

I won't lie, I'm always afraid of seeing someone like that visit my island as well. Have a very hard time doing creative things and have spent a bunch of time even just thinking of how to create my island, so having someone throw an insult like that is extremely damaging even as a joke. Know how you feel. So sorry it happened. ;-;

I'm sure your island is just fine! As many people have said already, don't let a few negative opinions get you down! I'm sure if you put in the work, it'll show regardless of how good it is compared to others.

This is honestly me so much...I keep thinking my island sucks, but my friends keep insisting otherwise. I need more confidence in what I do lol.
