So I'm trying to plant flowers all around my town. My town's color scheme is red and white, but I can't decide between roses or carnations. So far the roses seem to be working, but they seem larger and bulkier than the carnations. Maybe that's just me. But if you had to make a decision between roses or carnations, which would you choose? Maybe some opinions can help me. Feel free to use real world experiences/observations if you'd like c:
I'm not sure which one I'd choose, honestly. I mean, roses offer a few colours that I like (purple and black)
But carnations definitely are less bulky and seem more...delicate. And honestly, they're a bit prettier in my opinion. So, I guess I would choose carnations c:
I prefer how roses look but it depends on why you're doing your town up with flowers and a colour scheme. If it's to impress others I'd go for the carnations because they're considered hybrids. But if you're just doing it to look nice go for the roses
I like the carnations better. I think they're prettier and less "big" if that makes sense? But I guess you could use both, they can look nice together, especially since the roses have more colors.
I have seen pink and white roses and carnations together, and it looks really nice. But I guess it also depends on where you plant them for each flower to accentuate each other.
Carnations. I'm in love with how pretty the white carnations look next to the pink ones. Plus they aren't as "original" as roses, so it adds a different appeal.
I do wish they came in different colors as well, though.
Carnations definitely, they would go well with a pastel look or around ponds as well. You can add some of the red and white mushrooms, clovers, and stumps with nice patterns to break up the monotony and even add some nice paths. trees work too. I prefer pine for decorative but you need fruit trees. Use sparingly.
I like the way carnations and roses look combined--white roses and carnations, or red roses and carnations. It adds visual interest for areas that are covered in flowers of only one color, and it cuts down on the number of carnations needed.
I don't know if you've tried these combos, but if you'd like to see them in action, my AHS town (4500-6524-8750) has only red, white, and black flowers. The flower clock area has only red roses and red carnations, Fiona's yard has only white roses and white carnations, and Pepper's yard has stripes of red roses/carnations and white roses/carnations.
I prefer the roses because I like the variety of colors you can pick. Carnations are pretty, but I feel they tend to kill grass more so I only have them on my beach. You can get a lot of carnations easily by planting them in every other space then watering them all. They grow a lot.
Personally, I'm partial to roses. I find them to be much more beautiful in terms of shape. The carnations remind me of a tissue paper flower I made my mother for Mother's Day once. They look thin and frail, which I suppose may be a positive if that is what you are going for, but I prefer the sleek romantic look of the roses.
