[Roleplay] The Aftermath 2.5 - A Cushion For Our Hearts

[toxapex]

"Uh... I guess..." I answer, holding out my hand for the phone.

 

[Myst]

I take my hand off the mouthpiece and hand the phone to Helix.

 

[Naiad]

"Sage, you still there..?" I frown.

 

[toxapex]

"Hey Sai!" I say loudly into the mouthpiece, a bit over-enthusiastically. I cringe at my bad greeting.

 

[Naiad]

I wince. "Hey, Helix. Nice to hear your voice, it's been a while."

 

[toxapex]

"Heh, you too..." I say awkwardly. "Your voice seems... older." I quickly add: "In a good way!"

I glance nervously at Sage.

 

[Naiad]

"Well, it has technically been five years. What're you two up to?"

 

[Myst]

I smirk at Helix.

 

[toxapex]

"Oh, nothing, just... college... and... yeah... Not too much, since we just graduated."

 

[Naiad]

I smile. "That sounds nice." I laugh quietly. "It's usually pretty busy around here. Catherine and Scott cause quite a fuss."

 

[toxapex]

"Who are Catherine and Scott?" I ask. "Neighbors?"

 

[Naiad]

I mentally facepalm. "... I forgot to tell you two, didn't I? I have two toddlers."

 

[toxapex]

"Oh, congratulations!"

"...You and Blaze...?"

 

[Naiad]

I nod. "... Yeah. He's better now, I promise."

 

[toxapex]

"If you say so... Listen, I don't want to keep you talking for so long, so I'll give you back to Sage now." I cover the mouthpiece and breathe a sigh of relief, then I hand the phone to Sage, grinning as I do so.

 

[Myst]

I grab the phone back and say, "Hey. Sorry about switching on you. He wanted to say hi."

...and I don't yet feel comfortable talking to her long... after all we've been through...

 

[Naiad]

"That's alright. Anyway, Helix'll probably mention this to you later, but I'll be bringing Catherine and Scott along."

"They're my kids." I quickly add.

 

[Myst]

I solemnly say, "Oh... I see..."

...kids... really... ohmigosh...

 

[Naiad]

I smile weakly. "You'll love them, I promise."

 

[Myst]

I reply softly, "I hope so..."

I've never been good with children...
