Rock glitch

I was island hopping and I came across a money rock island.
I wanted to break the first rock to get to the money rocks, but my shovel kept going through the rock for some reason.
I tried it in many angles but it just kept glitching, so I had to leave the island without any money from the rocks.
Am I the only one who has experienced this?

The same thing happened to me several times now - I thought I was going cracy

Eventually, I always managed to break the stone by standing right in front of it without any weeds/flowers on the ground nearby.

It has been like that since the last update...

Did you pick up the stone that was near the rock you have to break to get to the center island with the money rocks?

I wonder if this is related to the new change where you can shake a tree of there's no places for the items to fall. Weeds and flowers count as empty spaces

i have also experienced this! i was standing more to the left though and just like the person above after i moved right in front of it i finally managed to break the rock. it has only happened to me once though. after this glitch i visited the money rock island one more time and everything was fine, i didn't encounter the same problem again.

In my case I had to remove anything on the ground in front of the stone. Otherwise it didn´t work... even if I changed the angle.

this hasn't happened to me, but I'm curious to know if you tried to break the rock with an axe instead of a shovel and if that worked? Like I wonder if the glitch is associated only with the shovel tool

i'd definitely report it to nintendo support, if you are in the US! it's a very frustrating glitch, but not one i've seen talked about, so they may not know it exists yet.
