I know that after a certain amount of time, old villagers can return to your town. But my question is, do they return how you left them before, or original again? For example, if when they moved out they wore a different shirt than their original, do they come back with that shirt on, or do they come back with the shirt they normally start out in?
It depends if you voided them or you let them be adopted. If you voided them and then do the 16-villager cycle to adopt them back, they will be original. However, if you let them move to someone's town and then they let them move back into yours when you complete the cycle, they would be like you left them.
it will basically be like you're adopting an entirely new version of that villager. they won't remember you, they won't have the same shirt or catchphrase, etc, they'll be brand new (unless you adopted them from someone or got them from someone's void)
