Returning to an old town

For some reason I go on hiatuses often. I don't mean to but sometimes I just get busy with life and forget about ACNL. Anyways, I never allow myself to not play my 2nd town for more than a week. But with my 1st town, Sapphire, it's different. I haven't played that town since around new years. And I know a villager has moved out since I've been gone for so long. Also I know that when I return, I'll have 8 villagers left and I'd have to find a 9th one quickly so I can plot reset. But should I really return right now? I never really have motivation to play that town since it's pretty much 'completed'. I'd probably forget about Sapphire again. I just don't want my town to be really screwed up.

Well there is only one way to fix that and it's by jumping in and taking care of Sapphire again. Perhaps invite a friend over and the two of you can work on it together? That way it won't seem so sad or overwhelming. Good luck, sweetie! Go Sapphire!

Are you saying that you just want to keep Sapphire as your completed town? You don't want to get rid of it?
I think I would find it too difficult having more than one town. I think when I 'complete' this one I will just delete it and start over, probably won't even keep any of my stuff.
If you're planning on keeping Sapphire then yes I would go back now and just do some upkeep. You are only dreading it because it's been so long and there will be a lot to do. You will be fine once you get started
