Here's the deal, for quite some time I've wanted to restart my town because I don't like the map anymore and every time I see how I laid out some of my PWP [like my campsite] drives me crazy because it just makes the whole thing look really, really messy.
I don't care a lot about my encyclopedia, BUT I just unlocked T.I.Y and it's the only thing I don't want to erase because it has a lot of things.

I guess it's a little late to start thinking about this, huh? I just wanted to get this out of my mind...
What do you guys think?

Sounds like you should to me but that's just my opinion... >.< Think long-term, you can change a small store to a big store but you can never move your campsite or change your layout.

I agree with Lin, though I don't really like it because of the sentimental memories you'll have of your Villagers, and everything you did in Town.

In my opinion, I would. I restarted mine and I couldn't be happier. If there are things you want to save, you're welcome to put them in my town and go reset, and when you're done, you can come back to get them c:

What a coincidence I just restarted my town yesterday! I had been playing since it's release, acquired quite a lot of items and fully upgraded most of the shops..but..man I just really hated my layout! Actually it was ruining my gaming experience to some extent. :/

So I got someone to hold some of my items while I reset. After about like 20+ tries I finally got a town I'm satisfied with :'D

The downside is..well I was a bit sentimental with some of my villagers. I actually kept every letter they had sent to me. Sadly I could not take those with me. :<

I restarted a week ago for the same reason! Things to think about if you do restart:
1)Have someone hold all your valuables and bells. Luckily, I had my bf's museum to dump all my un-orderable/expensive stuff.
2)You only get 4 map options each time you start the game. So you might need to restart a few times. Think carefully about what you need from your map. For me I wanted retail close to the beach and straight paths to and from town square, retail, train station, town hall, and main street so that I could lay down paths with out too much trouble.
3)If you're really into having certain villagers you may also want to restart until you get some good starters. (Once I saw Coco and Lucky, I knew I was done. XD)
4)When you start PWP keep in mind where you'll be placing future PWP. Maybe you want your zen garden next to your hot springs for example.
5) If you're impatient to get your stores back and whatnot, start your game a few weeks in the past and use TTing to catch up. I only TT'ed from one day to the next as to not mess up my town in the process.

I, personally, am really happy I restarted. I made so many stupid decisions my first time, and now that I know better my town is coming along beautifully. It's a pain to go through all the beginning phases, but I don't regret it at all.

Well in my own game I don't really like my town lay-out, but after looking @ how I layed out my paths and public works projects I do like it. And you can always demolish your PWPs and place them else where.
I'd highly suggest to see if you can somehow make your town better by laying out your paths (if you have any) differently and moving you PWPs before you demolish your whole town! So you don't loose everything you've got.
Good luck. In the end it's always your choice.

I have 2 copies. I have never restarted on my Japanese copy cause im super happy with it however On my other 3DS i had bought a digital version which i soon realized that was a mistake so I bought a retail version and started again. I really was happy to restart. I got the layout I really wanted. :)

I already have paths, but I still don't like how my town looks... I think it looks so messy and I completely hate the place I chose to put my campsite D:

Right now I'm just buying a lot of bushes and then I'll look for someone to hold my things, as I've decided to restart.
Thanks a lot guys, I'll make sure to choose a GOOD map so I don't make the same choice.

Also, I choose this map because... well... I was quite excited to finally have New Leaf in my hands.

I did the same thing I didn't like my town layout because it was to cramped to but down PWPs so i end up resting my town, my friend had to hold all my stuff in till i picked the right layout it took me about 50 rest i think, in till i got the right layout.

If you do restart your town here are a few things to keep in mind for a great lay-out. (Of course it all comes down to your opinion.)

-having Re-Tail (the recycling shop) near the ramp down to the boat dock, so that you don't have to run so far with you loot when you come back from the island.
- look for towns with nice islands and beaches.
-Good places to put your home.
(Secluded areas away from villagers/close to the beach/peninsula-like locations etc.) Depends on what you like, really.
-Where do you want your town hall?
-A Town Tree in the center of town?
-Good entrances to the beach.

(also check out this video! It may help with the selection! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__tgBGjGhVo )

The beaches bit is so true, I have a rather big private beach and that was a big, big mistake e___e

Seriously guys, thanks a lot for your comments and concerns, it means a lot to me!

I will personally never restart, I would just feel disconnected from the game if I did that, I however are thinking about buying a second copy of the game later on, and I want to have the perfect layout, and then I wanna make it Anime Themed.. :)

If I had money I would buy a digital copy, but getting the one I have right now costed my my 35+ dollars and I can't afford to "waste" money I don't have.

But I see your point and I wish you luck!

Never had to reset, although, I have been tempted to.

I love my town layout. It was very symmetrical, but the thing that bugs me most is that there is a rock and a pond right in front of my town station, like I can't really do anything fancy in front of it. I wanted to reset for that and some other silly reasons, but I really like the fact that I got this town. On the bright side, without me thinking about it my Re-tail ended up being really close to both the docks and the location I put my house!

It's all about having fun and enjoying yourself. If your town is keeping you from doing that then it's time to restart.

Had to do it myself recently and I'm enjoying the increase in usable land this one has compared to my first one.

I'm just about to restart mine.. seems like loads of people are! if you really want to, go for it! :)

I've been wanting to do that, but I don't want to leave behind all my game, so I was considering buying another copy on ebay (also it would shut up my sister, she's wanted a copy for ages) but I might reset..i dunno!
