Restarting town after only a year <:3

So, I've decided to restart my town of Peace despite only having it for a year or so. I feel bad about it (more then I think I should?), but it was turning out really bad.

I let all my villagers move in randomly and they just all happen to move in right around my house on the same side of town save for one. This left me very little space for anything else plus I had placed some pwps badly.

I'm gonna be waiting till March cause I wanna start in spring. I'm not gonna let villagers move in willy nilly this time. I'd like the house placements to seem random, but I'll be using path tiles to predetermine where they'll sit. Wish me luck in getting a good map!

Suggestion:

When you are about to accept a new town—which has features you like and/or are willing to accept—think through where to locate your mayor’s house, where you would have other humans live, and where you want your town’s villagers to be located.

After you accept a new town, that your new mayor and the new town is first saved (the tree-planting ceremony), open your town gate. (Make sure your picture has been taken. Tell Porter you want to allow visitors Nearby.) This way, no villager can change his shirt.

From that point forward, take the time to lay down, say, grass (I use the color green in my mayor’s patterns). Do it all around the town. Doing this prevents villagers from moving in just anywhere. (Their houses are 3 x 3. For humans, 3 x 5.) That way, you can create a layout in town that is like zoning. You will be able to control where additional humans can have their houses. You will be able to control where you allow villagers to live.

You may want to visit my town Orange (a link is in my signature) to see what I did. Orange’s southern half has all ten villagers lined up from west to east (appearing from left to right). I have three spaces between the villagers’ houses so, in between those houses, I planted trees or bushes.

In the early part of playing a new town, this can feel time-consuming (and you may want more than one day to set it up this way; you would need to write down the date of Day #01). But, once you get past this, you may find it rewarding.

I think I'm gonna have the most trouble with making the villagers houses look randomly placed while deciding where they go before hand so they don't all move in to one area like before. I'll probably plot reset each time till I like where they are or something similar. But really thanks for all the advice I'll be sure to follow it! <3
