What are some potential points about a town that make it aesthetically pleasing when you're choosing a town layout? What do you prefer to see?
I've been resetting for hours & I just can't seem to find one that I really like.

- - - Post Merge - - -

I have found that some of the things I really like are a left-side beach, the town hall and event plaza close together, Retail close to the dock and lots of ponds. However I haven't gotten any results that contain everything I like! :(

I prefer one lake and when I arrive I lead poor Isabelle around while I tour to see if there are any major rocks in the way of planned bridges etc. Too many rocks and I reset. I find that they and lakes really interfere with the placement of PWPs down the road.

It all depends on your own preference honestly =)

My layout could have been better, but I didn't reset for it, and I am just making it work for me. I feel comfortable with it now.

Some things I like in a town:

- South facing waterfall (just looks pretty)
- The above with preferably enough room to one of the sides to plot your house and some gardening space
- Not too windy river (mine is a stair-shape, sometimes it's real annoying to search for fish having to zigzag)
- Retail either near the docks (to sell your island-catches) or near the station (for visitors to sell turnips etc if you want to do that)
- Some people don't like a lot of ponds because they take space that could be used for PWPs, I like several ponds for gardening purposes

But it's still about personal preferences and how you feel about your town =)

Good luck finding a good map!

I like towns that have access to all parts of the beach. I don't like the lonely island you have to swim to. I prefer my Re-tail by the tracks but it just depends. My main town isn't too far of a walk from the docks and it's right by the train station. I really want a town with a front facing beach slope, both of mine are sideways. But those are just my preferences. I don't care about ponds too much. I think my main has 4 or 5. They don't bother me too much. It just depends on what you like.

I just wanted a decent river, a Retail by the docks, and as few ponds as possible, and that's what I got.

Trying to get the best possible layout, or making all the buildings aligned or something, just doesn't appeal to me. Imperfection gives it kind of a character.

I'm just trying to get something with a smaller river that has a lot of space for PWPs and a left side beach. Those are my key points!

Am I the only one who doesn't care about the layout of my town? X3

I didn't care when I first started. Now that I've played on my main for a year I do realize some things I wish I could change about it, but I'd never reset it. I've put too much work into it and I've decorated it in such a way that I like it the way it is. My second town will get to have all the nice things I want now that I mentioned. Each person is different with what things they want their town to have. I personally don't want my tree plaza in a corner (one of the things I don't like about this town now) but if there's a map you even remotely like a little bit, pick it and go walk around it in game for a while and see what it's actually like. If you don't like it you can always reset and try again.

I agree, besides it's kinda fun making Isabelle run to keep up with you :D ( I'm a wicked wicked person and I take my pleasures, no matter how great or how small, where I can find them. )

RUN DOGGY RUN!!!!

It's all personal preference really. But personally I prefer re-tail in the middle of town, you can easily reach in from everywhere in town but I know some people like it near the shore.

When I'm resetting & looking for a good layout for my cycle town, I look for ReTail, Town Hall & the plaza all above the river, preferably near the gate. I need enough space to place my house & the campsite at the top of the town. I prefer only 1 or 2 ponds & as few rocks as possible. The river shape & direction really doesn't matter, as long as the land space is good.

Things I like are:

Continuous beach - I don't like split beaches at all!
The buildings (Town Hall, Caf?, Police Station, Retail) near each other & either close to the beach or centrally located
Any fruit except oranges because perfect oranges are very weird looking
Circle or square grass - for some reason triangle grass looks messy to me
Mostly straight river because it looks nice and it's easier to fish in than long winding rivers.
No more than 2 ponds because they take up too much space.
No rocks in places I want to build things or make paths.

I was lucky that my map is one of the first maps Rover showed me!

I just eyed the map, imagining where my house and permanent PWPs would go. I found one I liked, and kept it. Was super happy to have peaches. xD
