Hi there. I've had ACNL for about a year now, and I'm wondering if I should reset my game. I've barely accomplished anything (I don't even have the museum shop!), I hate my town layout, and I'm starting to dislike the placement of my house. Every time I've tried to reset, I couldn't bring myself to do it. I'm afraid I'll regret losing all of my items, and my favorite villagers in town (Spork & Julian). Does anybody have some advice? Also, I've kind of lost the motive to try to fix my town, so I'm turning to an inactive player.

Weighing the pros against the cons, I'd say go for it. This is the perfect time to start your town and start developing it as much as you can and become more satisfied, it being a new year. You can get your villagers and items back, and you'll probably like a new layout and town much better.

If you really hate your town and haven't accomplished much anyway, I don't see why you can't reset. :) It's probably a much more difficult choice when you've made a lot of progress. You can get someone you trust to hold your items for you, and if it's only two villagers you want to transfer over, you can also ask someone to hold them. :)

By the way, if you're willing to time travel and the person holding your villagers is a cycler or willing to get them to move out fast, you can probably invite them before you even have a full town. :) (Let me know if you need more advice on doing that.)

I had the same problem with my first town. Bad layout, didn't plan it correctly, Chrissy moved out (only 6/16 through the cycle), Dreamies in terrible places, and overall, I was not satisfied with it at all. I've wanted to reset several times, but then I thought about all my progress, my Bells, badges, PWPs, upgrades and villagers, and said never mind. Keep in mind that I've been trying my best to fix that town as well.
But I decided to reset, have a fresh start. I got one of my friends to hold my items for me, and I am so glad I resetted. I got an amazing town layout, the Town Plaza and Re-Tail are in decent places, and there is a huge space for me to work with.

Get two holders and reset. Nothing to lose if your favorite villagers are saved.

I had the same problem with my previous town. Honestly, you will be able to get your villagers and items back even if it takes a while. You could also find someone to hold them for you. But your town layout and your house placement is permanent. :( In my opinion I think it's worth it to reset if you are really unhappy with those two things.
