Representation Is Important

I want better hair for blokes.

The styles are hideous and plastic looking.

Let me have long hair.

Not the girly shoulder length crap.

We want early Ian Gillan and Ted Nugent.

YES!!
And another thing with the hair - it’s all fancy looking in my opinion.
If they just took the hairstyles from Mii Maker I’d be happy, although it’s not like they can just port it over but I mean... new hairstyles have been done before.

I just got the new update and one of the things I'm glad to see is more afro-textured hairstyles being included. Being able to change your skin tone in New Horizons was a pretty big deal to me: having to constantly maintain a tan in New Leaf was one of the things that ultimately caused me to quit playing.

Not being able to have my mayor look like me without hassle bothered me more than I thought it would. Considering the game is about immersion and all. When I changed my villagers hairstyle to the new wavy afro a smile spread itself across my face; it finally matches what I look like. Basically, representation is important and it feels nice to be acknowledged lol.
I feel ya and understand. I was super excited about the new hairstyles. My girl is now rockin her Afro puffs. :)

If Nintendo wants to keep providing new updates for a long time, I hope that includes many more hairstyles and textures.

Skin "color" in ACNL was always one of the things that bothered me the most, I'm glad they started implementing actual different skin colors in subsequent games.
Yis. Would love if they had more hairstyles with blunt bangs. Or an option for us to be able to add bangs or keep it sideswept like how Pokemon does is.

I am so happy Nintendo did such a great move to help include their whole audience and more. I just really hope they introduce more casual hair, like my short hair isn’t perfectly represented because I am in between a shoulder length and a short bob. Also, I hope they introduce frizzy short hair like mine, I want a hair style like that but right now I have a shoulder length with waves-the best I can get. I just hope Nintendo keeps including more customisation options :)

I don’t like how the girl hair looks and I am a girl. I just cover my head in a hat and call it a day.

I’m happy for the people who are pleased with the new hair though it’s great that they did that.

I didn't quit playing NL over it but it definitely annoyed me that you could only make white characters or spend time getting tans for them. I'm not white myself. I don't absolutely need all characters to look exactly like me but it's nice to have the option like white players do. The characters I come up with tend to be pretty diverse and it was jarring that they had to look so uniform, too, which again is an issue that people don't have with white characters.

It's especially important since this game is played by kids and it's SO important for them to see themselves represented and not just white characters. There's been a lot of studies about this and anyone who was or knows kids in this situation knows how important it can be. White people don't always understand this. Even for white kids, it means they'll see variety of skin tones in the game and see it as a normal thing.
An honest question :0! When you say white, do you may fair skin toned, or non poc. Because animal crossing is a Japanese game, so they (the villager) would be a poc, just fair skinned. I really doubt a Japanese game company would make a white main character. But if you mean fair skinned then I totally understand what you mean!!

I know what you mean! I didn't quit New Leaf over it, but I did have to heavily disassociate from my character just to keep playing, like 'this isn't me, its a just a representative of me'. I honestly don't know if anyone else remembers, but Nintendo actually caught a lot of slack back then for no skin tone options in NL. They said use mii masks...which didn't even change your hand colors at first, and you couldn't wear accessories with them and they just looked so weird. 😔 I squealed like a big baby when I could finally have my right skin tone in Happy Home Designer! I hope the next couple years of updates bring in more diverse hairstyles and eye colors and Sanrio villagers
