Replacing villager moving out with amiibo card villager

Axle asked to move out today and I said yes. He'll be in boxes tomorrow and have an empty plot the following day. So, I think I should be able to use an amiibo card to invite a villager if I start today.

Day 1: Axle is moving. Invite amiibo card villager
Day 2: Axle is in boxes. Invite amiibo card villager a second time.
Day 3: Plot is empty. Invite amiibo card villager a 3rd time and they will move in because there's a plot available.

Has anybody done this? I'm wondering if it will work. I'm assuming it will.

Yep I’ve done exactly that twice with no problems!

Yup, I just did that with Molly. Snake pinged, and I scanned Molly in that day. Third day was when the plot was open and today she is there, unpacking.

I've invited about 7 amiibos in so far. Should work fine. Even if Axel didn't ask to move out, you could kick him out provided you have 10 villagers.
