I just wanted to share Fauna's house because I am surprised I was able to get so much of it changed. I am still working on it a little bit.
Now and before.

it looks great! I always thought the wooden block furniture looked pretty odd with the brick wall so I might try doing this myself too! And I caught 2 bugs she requested early on in the game before I knew the consequences so her house is a bit of a mess haha

that's so interesting! i honestly never took the time to give them furnitures, if i gifted them anything, it was mostly clothes, so seeing this definitely picked my interest into offering them furnitures in the future.

If you do, do it by mail.

oh! was going to gift them upfront. would be curious to know the reason why it has to be by mail, but will follow your advice, thx!

I had better luck that way. I am not sure if there is a higher chance of them using it, if you give it to them by mail.

I've never gifted anyone furniture before (aside from reneigh who asked for a couple fish early on and now she has a Massive black bass in the middle of her room haha) and I think I would have too much anxiety because you can't fully control how they set it up!! you've done a great job with fauna's house tho :)

I believe it doesn't matter if you gift them through mail or in person. They'll only display the items if they are replacing an item of the same category.

I use this to see what kind of furniture the villagers have in their home.

And this google doc to know what category items are in.

For example, when I tried to give a Tea Cozy for Olivia to display, she never did. The reason for that is because the Tea Cozy item can only be displayed on surfaces that have the category "kitchen", which none of the tables she has is in. Only way for her to display it is if I give her a 1x1 item in the kitchen category that can also have things placed on top of it. She will then display that item in one of her free 1x1 room markers. Each item has a requirement to be displayed or replace. You can only replace "Base_Display" items with other "Base_Display" items of the same size.

Hopefully this helps you and anyone else that plans to replace or modify their villager's homes have a better understanding of how it works.

that looks great! i know how frustrating redecorating a villager’s exterior can be and so i really admire your dedication and patience!
