So I am facing a dilemma on whether I should upgrade to the New 3DS XL? I currently own an original 3DS that I've had for 2 years and was working fine until on December 22th, I noticed that the Game Card slot in it has 6 pins bent, preventing it from reading games unless they are pushed in very tightly. I contacted NOA Customer Service and they said that a repair for it would be $85. Should I pay out $85 for repairs and keep my original 3DS for now or save for a New 3DS XL?

I am unemployed at the moment and lately due to some family issues that happened recently, I cannot borrow money nor do I have a chance for getting a New 3DS XL as a gift in the slightest...

$85 is pretty much halfway there. I'd say keep saving. The wait might be a few months, but I'd say the upgrade is worth it.

I don't think a repair would be worth it for $85 unless you truly treasure your 3DS. Normally I wouldn't recommend buying the New 3DS, but since your old one is damaged anyways you might just want to upgrade to it when you have the money. In the meantime, if you have the space you could download games digitally on your 3DS unless you like getting deals on the hard copy versions like buying it used or something.

With what's wrong with it, your 3DS is no longer even worth 85$. You can go into Gamestop and buy a used 3DS for 130$.
So really it would be a complete waste to try and repair it. Especially considering that 85$ could mean your that much closer to the new one.
Also, I messed around with the new 3DS at work before it came out (manager got the display in quite early) and it was phenomenal to hold compared to any other 3DS I've had to be perfectly honest.
I'm not one to go out and just throw my money away on game systems when what I have is already fine. I had a regular 3DS, and my boyfriend bought me the XL. Of course, now I can't go back to the tiny screen. But if I had the choice between a regular XL and a New one. I'd go for the new one. Also, it's nice that the regular XL was 200, and the New one is 200 as well. So they didn't up the price like most people expected them to.

Plus, this will prepare you for the new games in the future that will only be on New 3DS.

Upgrade for sure.

I've had mine for less than a day and I can already see the difference in load times. I've only played one "older" game on it so far, and it looks even better than on the original 3DS. I'm not even sure why, but everything looks smoother even though the game itself could not have gotten a visual upgrade.

I thought the 3D following your face was going to be kind of mediocre, but it actually works for me. I might find myself actually using the 3D.

The only time the super-stable 3D screwed up for me a bit was when I was playing in the dark. For the rest it works perfectly even in low-light conditions.

85$ for repairing that otherwise fine 3DS is a bit much, especially when shipping fees come into the play. At this point, I would save your hard-earned cash for the New 3DS XL, since you don't own a lot of retail games for your current 3DS, even if they are all physical. Therefore, there is no hurry for on getting a 3DS as soon as possible.

Consider selling your current 3DS on E-bay. You might be able to make ~50-60$ on that which might help you saving up for the New 3DS XL.

I would, but I get confused as heck trying to set up a PayPal account, so if anything, I would probably sell it through Amazon...
