Removing friends from list

Alright, I’m turning to the Belltree Community to see if anyone can help. I recently restarted my game and when I went to play with my mom and add her character to my best friend list, she noticed that my old character was still on her list. She quit being best friends with the old character, but it still shows up on her friend list. And since both files have had the same name for my representative, when she goes to send a present in the mail, she’s not sure which one to send it to. Is there a way to delete the extra name from the list? Since that island no longer exists, if she tries to send a present, it just goes into the void. I’d appreciate any help you guys could give. Hopefully this made sense.

I've seen this question posted before a long time ago, and I don't think an actual solution was found in that thread. As far as I know, there's still no way to do that in-game, and they don't just disappear given enough time.

This reddit post from a year ago mentions that even deleting someone from the switch friend list and re-adding them isn't a solution, because both islands will show back up. I'd say it's your best bet to have your mom try that and hope one of the updates made this work in the past year or so, but I'm not too optimistic about that...

Doesn't the friend list usually shows a small picture of the villagers? Perhaps you could set your current to a different appearance if they two are alike? It could help.

Yeah, we tried deleting my friend code and re-adding it. It didn’t fix the problem. Oh well. I probably will change my appearance so that she knows which one is me in actuality. Thank you for the help, both of you.
