...Not bring a single thing when they move in?
I'm serious! No money, no clothes, no small furniture. It's just so weird! When I first played, I thought my character was mugged on the train because I got those wide open eyes lol

Not sure. But go shake some trees! Maybe some good furniture will drop out for you. Collect and sell all of your fruit and the shells on the beach and maybe you will have enough to buy something at Re-Tail to furnish your new house with.

It just seems like they're leaving the world they came from entirely except the clothes on their back.

I almost, almost view it like Spirited Away. At least shares similar things.

I guess you could say, it was time for them to turn a 'new leaf' :P

(I s2g if no one has heard of that saying...)

I have this weird post-apocalyptic head cannon where most of the human words has fallen apart and they had to sell the last of their belongings to scrape together enough Bells to buy a ticket out of their former town...

I shook every fruit tree I could find. Then shook a nonfruit tree and was chased by bees 0-0"

Way to be family friendly~ Coming from the one who thought a mugging took place when she first played lol

In the earlier games, you do start with 1,000 bells which goes towards the payment of your house. I know you start with nothing on New Leaf. I think Rover turns over a new leaf and just sits next to you so he can mug you while he is being tedious with trying to give you a map and asking so many questions.
