xD! Yeah I've been wondering about it as well for long. However. I may be wrong but I feel like we have somewhat less chance to find fleas on our villagers repetitively when we sell it to Reese compared to just releasing it out there.

There's a small lake near the retail in my town so sometimes, I think they'd just dump some things in there which would definitely make them lose profit and not make sense. For furniture, they'd probably give it back to the nooklings while the fish could be used as their food supply. Not sure if alpacas eat fish but hey, this is a game where animals walk on two feet and can talk.
