So, I just spent some time and time traveled (the one day ahead and back method) to try to obtain some art.

I usually play diligently day by day but I got sick and tired of waiting for Redd to come only to give me all fakes. Most of the time!

Ok... I managed to fill out my museum a bit but I was very disheartened to see how often I saw the same fakes over and over. Even the genuine art were ones I already had. It’s almost like my island was destined for only a selection of art?

Has anyone successfully finished their art section of the museum without trading?

At the rate Redd turns up with new genuine artworks, I reckon you'd have to play for a decade or more to fill the art gallery without trading or time travelling!

I don’t think Redd’s had a statue (real or fake) in the last 10 visits to my island 😭 I’m so tempted to farm him to finish my art gallery but I keep telling myself he’ll come through (he probably won’t though 😢).

Thankfully he often sells real paintings, but lately they’ve been the same ones on rotation (Mona Lisa, Girl with the Pearl Earring, lady pouring milk, etc...)

No not yet. Redd does not like to have statues. Missing so many of those and a few paintings. I try not to time travel to much when he is here. Mostly because even with going back and forth most of what he brings are ones I already have.

I don't think this is possible at the moment. And besides, there's no way to verify if a player obtain all pieces of art legitimately without online trade.

Well, you are only guaranteed to get Redd once every two weeks. Since there are 40-ish artworks and only 24 weeks since Redd was added (the first few months not guaranteeing his visits at all), I don't think there can be anyone has completed their museum without trading or time travelling. Even with several extra characters to buy up real artworks the odds just aren't there.

I still haven't put any effort into seeking out art trades, only got maybe 3 or so spares from friends. I like how it's coming along slowly and see the art section as a long term goal, it's not like I have to go see it daily anyway.

Hm... now I wonder if Redd's artwork work the same way as furniture variants that appear on your island? Like how our game is locked to a certain set of colours that always appear in Nooks and NM items that are linked to airport, etc. If that's the case, online trade would be the only way to obtain everything unless villagers mail you art to help you out. Probably not but idk... I don't know mechanics behind the RNG in this game but my experience with this game so far is that a lot of things are "locked" behind online trading if you aren't willing to TT constantly, farm balloons, etc. I've been let down recently because Redd has been stocking the same real/fake artworks over and over again. I've never seen certain statues like the Rockhead and I've never seen any of the japanese screens. I know a lot of it is just random but my brain is always wired to think that this game is trying to get us to trade online or else wait forever lol.

@dizzy bone i was wondering this myself. Since the last time I tried to real artwork. I went and restarted the day he was there 5 times and got frustrated that he kept having the same art. I think I will try again when I see him. This time I will write down what he has each time. Maybe some art is just rare on some islands.

I tried for a very long time to finish my museum without trading or even time traveling. During this time I got maybe 3-4 pieces of genuine art from Redd. I honestly think my villagers sent me more real art than he actually brought. I 100% feel I couldn't have finished my art museum in a year, two years, or more if I didn't trade for it!

It was definitely an exercise in frustration. I really try hard not to do this kind of farming because I want to make the game last longer without getting burnt out.

But Redd is so rare and my RNG with him is so bad I just tried it while binge watching TV. 😜

It was eye opening how many of the same fakes my island attracts. And weird.

I finished my art exhibit about a week ago by time traveling when Redd appeared and refreshing his selection. Even so, it took a lot of resetting and seeing a lot of duplicates. It really tried my patience. My villagers have sent me a couple of pieces of real art as well, but only after I already had those pieces.

Redd is in ExIsle today, and he brought with him 4 fakes: 2 statues and 2 paintings. Probably one of the more annoying aspects of this game, honestly, considering he comes once every two weeks.

I just reread some posts and realized unlike you guys I get lots of statues. Fake fake statues. About even number with fake fake paintings. 🤣

I really haven't gone out of my way to trade with others, I'm focusing on other museum collections first. I've gotten artworks (real and fake) from villagers that haven't shown up on my Redd's boat so that helps. I haven't seen any statues either, though.

No time traveling but I do buy artwork from my other Island. Lately I've been having good luck with Redd visits. In 4 weeks Redd visited 3 times for each Island. Went 2 weeks with no Redd and he appeared this week. Main Island had 1 real statute and 2 real paintings.
The villagers have been helping with real statutes and paintings. An extra player checked her mail box last week and found a real Gallant Statue from Static.
